alfienoakes
First off, just want to say thanks to the guys who helped me out in the WIP forum.. I think its time I moved over here now though. I have a residential development that I am working on for a cleint. We have agreed to do some stills, but mainly some short animation sequences. I am fairly new to Vray advanced, and hence have never done an animation in vray. I have asked the question and been shown 3 solutions for an animation.. qmc & lightcache Ir Map & QMC Inc IR Map & Light Cache Now, the best results for overall tightness of the image and light levels have been QMC & Lightcache.. But this produces very noisey results. I am sure there is a trade off setting somewhere to reduce this, but I have not found it yet. The best results for a clean image, ie no noise and fairly sharp, seems to be IR Map & Light cache (so far) But i get terrible trouble with light leaks. Now I am sure there is no "defacto" answer, but I just need a bit more help on this. I need to keep render times reasonable, ideally 30mins for a 640 x 480 image would be my tops. Once again, thanks to the guys that got me this far, I just think its time to put this in the Vray forum.. The images below are what I have done so far. The light leaks are the IR Map, and the noise ones are QMC.. Any help would make me a happy man..!! Oh yes.. and I need to get this done yesterday.. visions
You are probably using the blur GI parameter...Dont use it! it is known to cause like leaks IRR + LC seems to work the best if only camera is being animated. There are some tuts on the Vray site, try them out. Cheers and best of luck Vivek
alfienoakes
Cheers Vivek.. Its funny you should say that.. Up until this morning my Vray knowledge was poor at best.. A morning spent on the Chaosgroup forum has at least gone someway to rectifying that..!! Had a look at light cache.. and Ir map... and light leaks.. and came up with the Blur GI.. turn my presets to custom, and all of a sudden "blur GI".. Here is the result.. alfienoakes
One problem.. I have changed my window to a vraymtrl.. and have lost my direct light that was coming in, and acting as a sunlight.. How do I get this back..?? It was casting a nice shadow on the floor, but has dissapeared.. Can anyone help with this..?? Cheers Andy
manta
Yes, exclude the glass object from that light... And you're gonna love the fact you can save and reuse your IRR. map and Light cache maps...
skogskalle
Yes, exclude the glass object from that light... or you just use the "affect shadows" setting in your glassmaterial. its in the material editor just under the fog-settings and stuff.
manta
or you just use the "affect shadows" setting in your glassmaterial. its in the material editor just under the fog-settings and stuff. You are so right, a much better solution !!
alfienoakes
Cheers guys.. Seems to be coming on a treat now.. Am gonna post some of the images in the WIP's, under a thread I had going last week..!! Andy
alfienoakes
Actually, I am also going to post these, and see if anyone can throw a little light on this problem.. When I rendered out the images, I used single mode.. Didn't precalc the IR map.. (I know I should....!), but some of the images did some strange things. See attached.. Any clues on why this happened..?? I have included 3 frames.. One is OK.. the other 2 show different problems. 1.. in my limited experience, looks like the IR map playing up.. the other, looks like the light levels are not getting thru..?? cheers Andy
skogskalle
in the first pic, it looks like you dont get any second bounces at all... the second pic is weird, have no idea whats goin on there. "show samples" ticked perhaps? do you use the same settings in all three pics? if so youve got some real issues... cause the last pic looks great. check your secondary bounces for the first 2 pics... maybe you accidently have an old lightmap loaded or something? alfienoakes
Its from the same animation.. Going to try and run the frames, using the tutorial that chaos group use.. Light Cache and IR map precalculated.. see if that works. mm
