skala67 Posted May 5, 2006 Share Posted May 5, 2006 We have recently started a residential project in vegas. there will be 21 houses. buyers choose from 4 different floorplans, with 2 variations of each. We will be rendering 15 interior perspectives, 8 exterior Perspectives, and 7 three-dimesional floor plans. The first attachments are perspectives of floor Plan 1. It is just the basic modelling study of the kitchen and the great room done in Form-Z. I will continually update this thread as the process progresses (lots of posting to come). Any and all C&C welcome. I look forward to your help along the journey and together we can create a better project. edub Posted May 5, 2006 Share Posted May 5, 2006 did you use c4d to render these? If so, are you continually exporting from FormZ? I'm only asking because I find it tedious to have this kind of workflow (continuously exporting) - I'd rather wait until all modeling is done, then export the final model to c4d for texturing and lighting etc. These days I've found myself skipping FormZ altogether, and modeling in c4d. skala67 Posted May 5, 2006 Author Share Posted May 5, 2006 No these are just test renders in form-z. I typically model all the rough architecture in form-Z, do a quick render and then export to C4D. I rarely ever have to go backwards and take care of all the smaller architecture, detail work, and finish work in C4D. It has been a system we have been using for 2 years or so. (I started in FormZ back in 1993-94) I do understand that it sounds a little unefficient seeing that there are software plugins for ArchiCAD and such, but it is a familiar and comfortable workflow. Just a quick test first pass with basic materials(designer hasnt given us final materials), no background, half the entourage and detail still to come. ideas welcome. I usually tone down the darkest part of the gradient to a 50% grey, and then make the maximum ray length something like 12" (assuming your model is to scale). I usually don't mess with any other settings - but I guess the min/max samples could be adjusted, if needed. It's really simple actually. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
STRAT Posted May 20, 2006 Share Posted May 20, 2006 i usually render a separate ao image for simple comping on photoshop. it involves completely removing all scene materials and assigning a white neon to everything. then, delete all lights and add a single omni. anywhere will do. this omni's brightness can be turned down completely to 0. in the ao menu under render settings, i'll then check apply to scene box, leave min ray length at 0 and max ray length to half a meter or so. dispersion at 100%, accuracy to 50%, min samps at 10, max samps at 75 and leave contrast at 0. you must turn AA to best, but you can completely switch off the gi settings. no need for gi. then hit render. to comp in photoshop is literally 2-3 clicks. STRAT Posted May 23, 2006 Share Posted May 23, 2006 simply put, ao or ambient occlusion is what was used to be called a dirt shader. a nice method of faking, or even enhancing, gi. it renders a shadow where edges and objects meet, that when applied correctly can nicely add to an image. take a look at my example - image 1 is the normal render with no gi image 2 is the ao black and white render image 3 is the ao render applied over the top of the non gi colour render. notice how the windowframes and desks sit nicely on the floor with a fake gi effect. works nicely on the walls/ceiling joints too. this is just a quick exagerated example, but i use it all the time. awfully easy to set up it is. can be used locally or globally. skala67 Posted May 24, 2006 Author Share Posted May 24, 2006 The Great room for plan 1 completed. A few tweeks are needed. This will be reduced to a smaller scale for the final presentation. (brochure printing and web site use) so some of the artifacting will blend away. The rest I will fix in post. I did use AO this round, and I like the results. Since it is my first time using it, I will experiment until I can get it working exactly the way I want. C&C would be great. Thanks, Oh and the master bath for plan 1 is coming soon.
