IceAged
Hi, I have modelled a scene that has a lot of trees in the foreground which makes it very hard to see the building behind. Removing them isn't an option so i've been asked to make the trees semi-transparent, which seems like a good idea. The problem is this - the trees were created using a 2D image on a diffuse map, and an alpha channel image on the opacity map. Reducing the opacity does not help and reducing 'visibility' in properties makes no difference. Using the mental ray renderer and MAX 8. Would rather not have to spend time adding the trees in photoshop as this needs to be finished tomorrow. Has anyone got any suggestions?
frank1331
What about putting them in post production with photoshop?
STRAT
just put your colour tree map in the opacity slot.
IceAged
Where do I put the alpha map jpeg though? It's currently in the opacity slot, and the colour jpeg of the tree is in the diffuse slot...
BrianKitts
if you edit the alpha map so that what is white turns grey.... you're tree will be semi-transparent in the grey areas, and still totally transparent in the black... darker the grey value you use, the more transparent your tree will be.... obviously white is 0 transparency.... so you're going more towards black
IceAged
Yep, I set the grey to 50% and it turned out ok. Thanks! I'd still be interested to know if there's a way of doing it without having to edit the alpha textures directly...
