Transulcent conrete

Hello I am trying to create an vray material of transulcent conrete (example below). Does anyone have any idea where I could start.

 

Wanting one which would be used during the day which would be slight transulcent/transparent only and another one which woulbe be used at night in which it would be still transulcent/transparent but also light up the surroundings slightly.

 

Not sure where to start.

I played with this idea last year. If you want I can share the settings for this. I did not finish this image it took a really long time to render so I abandoned it but I can send the texture or settings if you like it. It might look cool if you slap a concrete texture on it.

I don't think that's quite right - the stuff isn't actually translucent, it has fiber optics in it, so the light transmission is in one direction, and it's grainy.

i am really interested to know how to make that concrete slab!its amazing!

i have seen that trick on wallpapers works excellent,i saw some images of russian people.would any body share that knowledge with us??

Sure, I have some friends who are working on this - the old fashioned way, doing everything by hand. You just cut a bunch of fiber optic cable and embed it in the concrete as your pour. For best effect, you need to come up with a way to have the ends of the cables align to the side of the slab and have clean ends. It's actually not all that amazing. It's not as strong as normal concrete. But I can see it having its uses.

As for the texture, couldn't you create a box using 6 sides opposed to one chunk and detach whatever will get the grain look, give it it's own name. put a grainy looking alpha map on it, then put another plain behind it (it'll be inside the original box/slab) and give that plain a VrayLight material with yellow as the color? I know it's hard to explain. If i have time i'll try to do what i'm trying to explain and see if it works.

Pay no mind to the rendering or the textures. I just wanted to show what I was talking about with this quick image. All I did was make an alpha map in Photoshop and applied it to my material and this is what I came up with. 5 minutes work.

By Jove I think he's got it! Er, almost, but it's a good approximation. The pattern of the grain isn't quite right. And to be accurate as a simulation it should actually be transmitting light from one side to the other, but I'm not sure how you'd do that except by modeling the fiber optic threads.
