STRAT
Hi there as you know, SU's cameras are different from conventional 3d app's cameras. how do i EXACTLY replicate a sketchup camera/view in my other 3d programs, namely c4d or max/viz? i want to exactly place the nice lined sketchy feel of SU over a rendered view from my other 3d progs. Santiago Molina
Have you tried to use the film and stage plug in? It replicates different types of "real world" cameras, and places an object in the exact position of the camera, so it's relatively easy to locate the camera back in your rendering app. The whole focal length thing, well I have not been able to understand it completely (since it's related to real world frame size), but if you use field of view instead, things should work ok. chuck
The best way I've found is to create a bunch of tour guide pages in SU. when you export the 3ds, check "generate camerap pages". This will convert the pages into cameras in max. Unfortunately, it isn't perfect. The lines will be a little off and I'm not sure why. I have a feeling it has something to do with field of view in SU, but matching the parameters makes it even worse. It only takes a vew minutes to scale the line drawings to match in photoshop. I just layer the line work over the 3dsmax rendering and change the layer to "multiply". Chuck
craig.t
If you export the SU model with the views set up as a 3ds and then open it up in C4D the cameras will be exactly the same as they are in SU. The problem is then that you bring in all the rubbish you don’t want rouge lines etc from SU. What I do is then delete everything in the C4D model bar the camera’s and group and label them. Then I export the same model as a dwg, then from acad as a 3ds and merge that file with the C4D file with the camera in and hey presto you have the views with a nice clean model. One thing you have to do is then delete the camera views that come in with the merged file. I know it sounds long winded but it seems to work fine for me, if you find an easier way please let me know. Craig

When I was an undergrad, that reading room was one of my favorite places to study. Jack
craig.t
Strat, Should be exactly the same, well the couple of times I have done it that way it has been Craig
chuck
It "might" have something to do with the law library. My firm was originally working with Renzo Piano for the project. His building came in at something like $150mil. Everything was custom. We are giving them a few other options now with more reasonable price ranges. Are you talking about the reading room that's underground? The Gunner addition? I need to get out there and see the space...

It's amazing that such an enormous space can be so quiet. The addition is really interesting, and I think very sensitive to the existing buildings. But undergrads were never allowed in there, so I only got to sneak a look a couple of times. Too bad Piano was too expensive. I think he's a brilliant architect, one of the best working today.
