Sketchrender
I bought a copy. I have to say it is a good book. Over all a book for reference for arch viz. The only one i have come across. Alot of the veteran max users will know most of the book by now, it covers everyday modeling featutres. But there is always something to learn. Bottom line if your in the business of Architectural Visualisation, Buy the Book. A personal opinion phil

skala67
I've picked it up too, have had a chance to glance at it, and being a C4D user, it looks like it will help speed up the learning for 3d max. I am looking forward to exploring in more detail.
frank1331
I picked it up last week. I highly reccomend it for those trying to learn the ins and outs of Max. Easy to understand and follow.
ktm07
I too have had my copy for about a week now and I offer the following thoughts: The book is well written and easy to understand offering content that is of value to a broad range of users from novice to advanced. There are numerous tip and tricks as well as insight to help those in the business of architectural visualization. As both an architect and architectural illustrator I find this to be a very good resource. My 2 cents… Tom
Parker1
I got mine last week... This book is "A MUST HAVE" for anyone in the architectural CG industry. It contains great information for the novice user all the way through a multi year MAX veteran. This one is not just a bunch or words with little substance...it is fantastically illustrated and takes users step by step through each process. Anyone teaching visualization out there? This would be the #1 text book of choice. Thanks Mr. Smith...now get started on that V-Ray book.
Eyebog
I have not seen the book yet and it's unfortunate that such book are hard to find in Philippine bookstores. Hope I can get hold of one.
ktm07
I think you can get them through the big online book stores such as amazon, borders, and barnes and noble. Also through vizmasters. Tom
Eyebog
Even if I go online, the postal service here in the Philippines is unreliable. Sometimes parcels are being hi-jacked in the postal office to my dismay. Anyway thanks for the suggestion. Eyebog
Brian Smith
Thanks everyone for the kind words. All comments are welcome, especially those that can improve the book's next printing. Obviously the book is structured for the beginner, but my goal was to focus on features and techniques that have practical production value, and to provide as much insight to how veteran users work and conduct the actual business side of 3D. There are appendices in the book that cover marketing and production tips and downloadable content such as 3D business contracts, marketing presentations, business plans, etc. For these reasons, I believe it can be considered an asset for anyone, rather than just beginners. As far as purchasing the book outside the US, I believe Jeff Mottle is making arrangements to start shipping overseas without it costing $30 extra. Hopefully, it won't be long before those arrangements are made.

Brian Smith
Friends of ED does release a few books in electronic form http://friendsofed.com/ebooks.html, but I'm not sure why they only do it for a few of the books and not all of them. I will ask the publisher about providing this book in electronic form. It's a shame that it's so expensive to ship overseas and even more of a shame that some would have to wonder if their shipment would even make it to their mailbox. As far as printing the book in black and white, I really wish it could have been done in color, but there's such a small profit margin for a publisher (even at $60 per book) to print so many pages in full color that almost no one does it. I really don't know how anyone can do it and make a profit - sometimes I imagine it's a losing venture and probably why there are so few repeat editions of the same book in color. I'm always frustrated myself when I have to pay over 50cents for a color copy of a single page at my local Office Max.
Sketchrender
I ordered it in January , and paid $58 on amazon,. It took 4 months to get to me, But it is a hard back, and worth every penny. I keep picking it up, and using it. That's a good thing. phil
Brian Smith
Sorry it took so long...it was suppossed to be published in January but being in the National Guard, I was sent away to hurricane Katrina, Rita, and Wilma, and because of it, the book was delayed several months...it looked at some points like it wasn't going to get done at all. I've been in the guard since '97 and in the first 7 years didn't get sent on one hurricane deployment...in the last 2 years I've been sent to 8. And hurricane season is the day after tomorrow

A lot more cheaper than ordering it through Vizmasters. :) Unfourtunately, we can't compete against Amazon on certain International orders becuase we have to ship from the US. We can and do however beat Amazon's pricing to orders in the US.

Brian Smith
Michael, Are you sure you got the right book. I tried going to that website and the book wasn't found, even when I typed the name. There was a 3ds Max book with the name 'Foundation' several years ago and I'm wondering if that's what you got. It can't possibly be used already...I only got my copy less than 30 days ago. antonio_frias
Brian, When I ordered my book yesterday at amazon.fr they also proposed me two used copies, but I bought the new one because it was alot cheaper.
