Brian Smith
I'd be leary of buying a used book. They only left the printer on Apr 27th, and made it to distribution May 2. If they are selling as used less than 30 days of being printed, I would guess that they are not used, but rather damaged someway in shipping and just tagged as used. vodka79
one question, is it good to get the book for newbie in max? I've used Sketchup all the while and want to learn max fast to land a job.
antonio_frias
I bought the book and I think it is great for newbies and others also. I learned somethings in the book that I didn't know, so even if you aren't a newbie it's worth reading. The only thing I don't like about the book is that the pictures are in B&W. That wouldn't be a problem if there weren't references in the tutorials to colours, but there are Other than that, buy it!
AdrianM
I bought the book just a few weeks ago, cause i was interested that this book talked about visualition, about the stuff that we, 3d artists do. it is well written and clear, with tutorials that are easy going and fun. really i dont usually post about books here, but this one caught my eye, and it really payed off. There are some cool tricks that i never saw anywhere else and am starting to apply. You would see the results hopefully. besides teaching it is a great guide, quick, for some settings, so it is a time saver, instead of rendering and loosing time It s good for newbies, straigh from the basis, to advanced
AdrianM
hey vodka, yes it will be good for you, you cannot compare sketchup with 3dmax,
vodka79
hey vodka, yes it will be good for you, you cannot compare sketchup with 3dmax, Hi Adrain, i'm not comparing Sketchup and 3dmax. Both of them are in a class of their own. I have no knowledge of 3Dmax at all,and i wana switch to using max or viz for arch viz. Thanks and have a good day. mennekke
Really a great book, I was a lightwave user but because of cooperation with other cg artists stepped over to 3dsmax and picked it up really fast thru Brian's book. Although i guess it's not very usefull voor experienced max users. Very basic. But thanks to the book i stepped over in only 1 and half month. It would be great if vray render would be included in a next book, it feels as if most cg arch are using this render engine....
bigroo
Michael, Are you sure you got the right book. I tried going to that website and the book wasn't found, even when I typed the name. There was a 3ds Max book with the name 'Foundation' several years ago and I'm wondering if that's what you got. It can't possibly be used already...I only got my copy less than 30 days ago. Hi Brian, Sorry for the delay in answering you but I haven't been following this thread. The copy I received was your new book (ordered by the ISBN number) and it was as new as you could get so some poor soul has decided to offload a very good read. Brian Smith
There will absolutely be a chapter on VRay in the next book. I have a lot more leeway with the publisher with the 2nd and am not limited to a 600 page maximum. There will be approximately 20-25 pages on VRay, a cut to the chase kinda of explanation which I will make as easy to understand as possible. There will also be numerous complete scenes from recent projects my office has done.
cerpnjak
Hey Brian, I bought a copy of your book yesterday. I'm trying to get into arch viz as a career. I have used 3D max in the past and worked on a book a couple of years ago producing 3D illustrations. Anyway I saw your book and thought it was worth a look and I think I was right. Loads of great tips and tricks and useful stuff. Well done for writing it. By the way, when is your next book scheduled for release??? I'm sure it's a while yet but thought you might have some idea. Anyway keep up the good work
3dmaniac666
What kind of renderer is used in this book? I think I am going to but it regardless, but I have an excellent book written by Ted Boardman, but most books I see don't really go into mental ray. I can't afford vray at the moment so I am trying to use mental ray. Any suggestions??
Ian P
Hi I am looking to buy this book, but I only have Max 7 at the moment, will I miss out on a lot or will it still be useful to max 7 users? or do you have an older book for version 7?
brianzajac
Since 3ds Max comes out each year, Autodesk only makes a few crucial enhancements each year. And Brian's book really pushes the architectual visualization core components (and not just the enhancements from one version to another). I've personally read the book and haven't found too many issues using Max 7.
