archkre
Maybe you can help me out with this: I double click on an *.avi or *mpg or any film file and thewindows Media player tries to start playing the file and then my PC hungs! Why could this be and how do I solve it? Thank you
Devin Johnston
You could have a video that is using a codec that Windows media player doesn’t support. You would need to find out which codec the video is using and then go and find that codec so you can install it into windows.
AJLynn
WMP should play MPG by default, and should throw an error when you have an unsupported file. I won't claim to know the first thing about debugging this one, but as a tangent, if you install this: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow 99% of Windows video playing software will be able to play 99% of video you get on the net (Divx, Xvid et al) and this program: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ is an alternative to WMP that handles most formats and runs on most platforms (it's what I use in MacOSX). John Dollus
Also, Gspot can help you identify which codec is used http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
