Mac for Vray????

Recommended Posts

I was wondering to get the Mac, my supervisor is asking me to give him the fisibility of new computer. We are using Intel and AMD prcoessor based systems yet. Well, i found AMD much better than the intel ofcourse. Both are xeon and opteron systems. I want suggessions about the Mac G5. How much is it better than AMD. I am not mac user but hope so that i shall learn it very quickly, i want to work with 3dsmax, maya and vray on mac. Will it work better than AMD? I also want info from MAC users that what is the bit of MAC either 64,125 etc etc. coz windows is 32-bit and we have not tried the 64bit yet. so, switching between the systems will be good or we should go for another AMD? Thanks to all!!!

Go for another AMD. The Opterons are as fast as the G5s, the AMD will run Max and Vray and Apple has all but declared the G5 obsolete - soon after they can get a workstation class Intel Mac to market they will discontinue G5 Macs.

my knowledge of this is pretty sketchy but i'm guessing he is thinking of running windows on the new intel based mac's. I think its known as bootcamp when installed on a mac........there have been some previous posts that seem to have shown impressive render performance using bootcamp.

could be completely off the mark with that, however i'm sure some out there will give a more informed answer

**looks like andrew was posting at the same time! - had a feeling you'd know!!

JAT@ i m not actually looking for windows for Mac. I just wana know that either Mac is better than AMD/Intel. I wrote Mac Vs AMD coz intel is not as good as AMD, thats i have experienced. I was wandering about the Mac. I dont wana run windows on Mac.

Well here is again my question: with problem......

I have AMD opteron based systems. I dont know anything about the Mac, (cpu, ram, any other hardware) but just heard that Mac is better than any other graphics machine and OS, so i was looking that if there is any version of Max and vray for Mac and MAc OS? if it is so, i want your guys' suggessions that should i go for another AMD or should i ask my supervisor to get Mac G5 or other higher capacity system. Because, i dont know anything about the Apple, My friend has G4 and he said that i should try the apple, but i am here to get your suggessions either i should go for AMD and Mac.

Jack, you asked me why i wana switch over? so, i want more speed. As i am nothing for Apple or Mac, (your guys even notice that i even dont know the difference betwen the products and company's name,)i thought that may be apple mac (sorry if it is wrong) is better than AMD, and my friend also told me that apple gives warranty that "Hang anywhere, replace immediately with new one". That was statement actually, which was forcing me to think about MAC. Well, windows hangs many times and even Microsoft has not given any kind of warranty like that. MAC gives warranty bcoz there are sure about their hardware as well as software.

thanks to all who read and replied and will reply...

I think you need to do more research before making such a serious purchase. But to reply to your issues-

No, there is no Max or Vray for Mac. If you are committed to Max and Vray you should buy an AMD system. If you are not, you could look at Modo and Cinema4D for Mac.

G5 Quad machines are very fast, but there are AMD systems that are just as fast or faster. You do not need to switch platforms to get the kind of speed you are looking for.

The Apple warranty is good, but they don't just replace a machine with any kind of problem - they try to fix it. There are vendors who sell AMD systems with similar warranties.

For speed and service, if you are a Max/Vray user with a large budget you should look at the Boxx workstations with dual-dual Opterons.

As I mentioned above, you can't run Max or Vray on Mac OS X, so the platform debate is besides the point. Also, it sounds like you want the Mac for work, yet everyone else runs Windows. I doubt your supervisor will go for that.

Well well, thanks to all who replied. I am pretty happy now. I shall now go for AMD based Dual Opteron systems. Lets see what is the actual budget of the company. If it is so high, i am gonna get Box workstation Dual Opteron. Now conflicts in my brains are clear.:p I have experienced the AMD and i am 100% in favour of AMD. Now i dont go for Apple

Thanks to all.

Best regards

Yeah he is right, power supply must be high for the performance, also the hardrive too. although CPU, Ram and VGA are essential for the rendering and creation process but power supply plays very important role in performance.
