dvmorris
i have a relatively small autocad drawing, but the origin of the contents of the drawing is shifted over by about a million meters... what can i do to help when importing into viz so i can work with the scene? do i need to move the lines? this drawing is referenced in a bunch of other drawings, so i'd rather not move it... any ideas? thanks, dave
Conor Clancy
First thing you need to do is go to the Architectural technition or draftsman who created the drawings, and slap him across the back of the head. Then you need to bind all the xrefs, and move the whole thing closer to the origin. It is VERY important that you remember to complete the first step. dvmorris
yeah, the girl who did it quit, and they pawned this crap onto me... and i'm in spain, so that doesn't help. there's a bit of a cultural barrier when i try to explain things, in whatever language. thanks for your help,
antonio_frias
Why don't you just change the origin of your autocad drawing?
dvmorris
i don't know how to do that... i just moved the whole drawing over instead... is changing the origin different?
antonio_frias
You have to change your user Co-ordinate System (UCS) I don't know what version of autocad you have so I can't tell you exactly where to find the icon for that But if you type the word base in your comand line and than click on the new origin in your workplace, that should do the same thing
soulctrla
i typically would select the whole drawing - pick a point in the middle of it and move it all to 0,0 >open drawing >make a selection round whole thing >ctrl x (cut) >ctrla v (paste) - it will prompt for insersion point > type 0,0 and hit enter this should sort it
antonio_frias
Why bother moving your garage over your car when you can park your car directly in the garage? That's why the car has wheels and the garage doesn't! Do you get my point?
