vermu
Hi, I am trying to find a place where I could buy good 3d bushes. I wouldn't want to go with rpc's so if someone knows a good library of 3d bushes, please let me know. -Vermu

Ricardo Eloy
Some of the bushes we see in some images are simply boxes/spheres/whatever with a displacement map applied to them. Doesn't always work, but is definetly an option.
STRAT
Rick, i'm unfamilier with this option. can you show me an example or 2 please? i understand displacement ok, but not how to make displacement folliage.
Ricardo Eloy
As I said, it's like a generic way of doing it. For example: http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/15773-3d-scene-pool-details.html Doesn't work for all kinds of bushes, only hedges and stuff like that. Anyway, a good option came to my mind right now: SpeedTree. I remember they have some pretty decent bushes on their library.
BrianKitts
yeah I'll agree with that one... I've been using displacement lately for pine trees (easily could have been a horizontal hedge or bush) but they are right sometimes it just doesn't look right, takes to much time to render or.... looks good, 1 in 3 shot right??? he was kind of tucked in the back of this scene.... I cropped him in closer on the one attachment..... but you get the idea....
STRAT
guys, you talking about vray displacement right? sorry, didnt realise you were being software specific until i saw the examples not all 3d app displacement works like this.
Ricardo Eloy
Indeed... but you can do that with VRay, Mental Ray and Modo (as far as I know)... Doesn't C4D have a displacement feature like that?
STRAT
yup, SPD (sub poly displacement). quite slow. i certainly wouldn't recomment it for trees or such.
Ricardo Eloy
Well, VRay's and MR's aren't exactly a rocket, you know... But, even thought they are slow, they might as well work if you want to render them in separate and then composite using PS. Or not?
