AJLynn
Geforce can be good, but it depends which one. Only thing I'd add is, why Xeons and not AMD chips? You can outperform a dual single-core Xeon system with a good AthlonX2 or a Xeon dual-dual with dual-dual Opterons, usually at a lower price. gods418
yeah y xeon, get an amd opterons instead or get the duocore pentuim m laptops theyre at same speed as xeon...
AJLynn
True - my Core Duo 2.16 renders like a dual Xeon 3.6. You can also get the parts from Newegg to build a Core Duo desktop box, but it's not down to the AMD price point yet - they'll probably come down once they release the desktop version, but for now it's almost a specialty item. But compare: Core Duo T2500 (2.0GHZ): $315 (Newegg.com) 2x Xeon Irwindale 3.4GHz: $934 These configurations are roughly the same speed.
mennekke
Thanks AJlyn, if this is fact than it can save a lot of people a lot of money!
tecton3d
Thanks AJlyn, if this is fact than it can save a lot of people a lot of money! it definitely is a fact... the "architectures" of processors are changing and we don't have to deal with hot xeons anymore... out with the way of the p4 northwood, prescott, and canterwood crap!!! (finally!!) I'm not going to start flaming about AMD/Intel but please make an educated decision when purchasing new equipment... at least post here before you make a major investment;)
