jccloutier
I have a church model and I did an exterior view which initially came out ok. when I did an interior shot I added some omni lights inside and that came out ok. When I went back to the outdoor shot this is what I had: see C1bright.jpg Assuming the interior omnis are what caused it I turned them off, re-rendered and got the right solution: see C1normal.jpg what's the dealio and am I not expected to ever use interior lights when rendering exterior shots? v-ray 1.47.03 3ds max 7 SP1
BrianKitts
most likely you have standard materials with the specular levels cranked up. Its not so much that they were interior omnis.... it was just the addition of more lights. Do some searching.... theres tons of posts on the site here about, splotchies, blowouts, and color dots appearing on peoples images.... all runs into the same catagory. Vray doesn't handle the standard materials with high speculars too well. On the flip side, once you start using all vray materials, your render times can decrease somewhat. jccloutier
that seems to be the popular solution in other threads but why are the splotches on all surfaces including the one's mapped with v-ray materials?
BrianKitts
its because the items with the high specular value are bouncing unrealistic light throughout the scene playing games on the irradiance map, Its not so much the fault of the material thats recieving the spots, as much as the ones that are creating em..... If you look at the vray render dialog, you probably have a bunch of lines stating a material is overblown, returned overbright or something like that... haven't done it in a while to remember...... anyhoo thats the materials that are catching the funky bounces. Which doesn't help to figure out which material is causing problems... (it couldn't be that easy).... just go through your scence materials and find someone with a sharp peak on the specular graph! ( at least this is my understanding of it ) hmm one sentance, my mother would be proud!
Tim Saunders
Any RPC's in the scene? If so, select them all, then uncheck visible to reflection/refraction in the properties.

Dave Oliver
apart from your post being in someone elses thread and looking like a bad viagra email.... maybe you should start by doing some lighting test on a simple scene with all vray materials and lights, then transfer those settings there is no quick answer to, 'why my lighting bad?' Tim Fairbanks
We've been having this problem in our office since we started using Vray several years ago, and are still looking for an explanation as well. This happens to us in scenes that have NO standard materials - all Vray matl's (and yes, we have verified that there are absolutely no standard matl's in these scenes). The hotspots seem to have something to do with glossy effects (blurry reflections), not that this is an explanation, or in any way leads to a solution to the problem. I have gotten rid of them in some renderings by turning ON Reflection Iinterpolation in Vray materials that have blurry reflections. But as usual with Vray, what solves a problem in one scene may not solve a problem in another - scenes are all unique, and produce unique problems. Aaron2004
I have had similar occurrences when I use vraylightmaterial improperly. If you have a VRaylightmtrl in your scene, take it out for a test and see if you still have the same problems.
