Secret Maxwell Render Demo 1.01 ... doh?!

There probably aren't too many opportunities in Spain for people with the expertise these programmers have, and they're likely biding their time, collecting paychecks, and doing the bare minimum to get by.

I don't think you meant it this way, but that sounds a bit condescending to Spaniards, the vast majority of whom are not shady businesspeople. Granted, I don't know anything about the software industry there, but they do consistently produce some of the best architecture in the world.

Definitely didn't mean it to sound that way... I was intending to suggest that progammers with a background in rendering software development might not have many places to go (if only because Maxwell is the only renderer I know of from Spain.)

I don't think NL's problems have much to do with the programmers or with their location/culture/etc.- seems like it's all management to me.

I hear you, and I fully agree. They have a potentially great product on their hands, but their management is slowly digging its own grave. That's why I honestly think one of the best things that could happen would be for Next Limit to go under and/or be bought out by someone else. Someone other than Autodesk that is.

The engine is bad. That's my opinion as a professional. GUI's can be learned (read: worked around), material models can be learned. All that is just lipstick on a pig.

I think that's fine general statement... however there is an element of efficiency involved.

In maxwell's case, unlike like (insert the name of any popular 3D program here), there is no clear design M.O., or style. Hexagon and Lightwave are extremely different yet very powerful. I have used Lightwave for years and was surprised at how easily I could get work done using Hexagon. This ease of use showed me tangible proof that the way the LW interface worked requires constant translation by my brain and even though I had been using it for almost 8 years and many things in hexagon FELT easier. I found myself making models in a new way, suddenly, my models (at least the organic ones) were WAY better.

I believe a cohesive and well thought out conceptual model for the GUI is essential. I just WISH I could design the interface, studio seems to me like broken eggs, or rather... just every open dialog box without any form or function. oh, and what's with that big earth? Who ever thought THAT was a functional interface. ??

Anyway, my point is that a bad interface, or one without consistency and planning will require complete rote memorization... kinda like english... it sounds like laff, but don't look under "laff", instead look under "laugh". I know everyone else spells it "potato", but in maxwell you need to type "refractive energy converting nightshade edibles". Yeah, the render engine itself IS the key to the castle, but if it takes you a fortenight to GET to this castle, you wont feel much like frolicking once you arrive. That is, if the giant caustic bugbear doesn't consume you when you try to cross the bridge of render.

EXACTLY!!

They're not going to get any new customers this way. Who's really going to buy such an unfinished product?? People are really stoping using it and that's the biggest evidence that something has gone totaly wrong.

No new customers = no money = slowed / comatosed or no future developement.

They're on thin ice now so i wonder what they are going to do. The next update will be crucial. If we don't see any mayor developement then we can predict its fate quite accurately.

So let's wait and see ;)

Anyone got a few pennies to put in an offer to Next Limit? Maybe a consortium made up of CGA users could run the development better (certainly couldnt do any worse)

I'ld rather see someone scoop it up cheap from a bankruptcy court. And I have no reason to suggest that NL is heading there. They could be rolling in money for all i know, or have deep-pocket investors. I would just hate to see Victor make a profit selling Maxwell after all he's done to the 'little people'.

Hehe.. funny to see how you people act like NL killed your dog, then your cat, and after that your whole family and then danced on their graves until the sun set. It's more tragic to see the low level of which people drop down to on the forums than anything else.. sigh! don't you all have jobs to do than to sit on the forums day and night crying about Maxwell and NL all the time ? it seems like non of you are working at all. :(

It's more about their fears and suspicions being validated by the less than spectacular V1 release and the realization that NL has taken a product that showed so much promise and flushed it down the toilet. Add to that the mass bannings and you have a lot of people who feel they have been burned by NL so there is no wonder people have a bad attitude.

personally...i work hard all day

and when finally i come here by evening i see your messages of "complain of the complainers" and i'm disappointed.

if you don't like here, why don't you go back "drooling" to Tom?

Next Limit sucks with their awful policy with customers, and thats a fact.

Some of us were truly offended (some literally) by moderators if we manifest our anger for NL lies.

why you are keeping bothering us? go away if you don't agree!!!!

Maxer, i'm sure it's all that stuff but i mean it been discussed over and over again for months on all forums now. I see no point in discussing it all over yet again and again. What have you got to gain from doing all that ? except that it takes a bigger chunk outta your private time at home which could and should be spent with family and friends.

Gattomanzo, your weird comments aren't even worth replying to. Whatever makes you happy dude... go for it!

Well I think it's pretty obvious why people are still debating it, Maxwell came on the scene making some very revolutionary clams and the imagery seemed to back it up. It got a lot of people interested and caused a huge number of them to pre purchase their software. When it turned out that NL was deliberately deceiving them and wouldn’t take responsibility for their actions and the product they were waiting for and had already paid for was changing from what was promised into something very different people felt betrayed, mad, helpless, ext. So now you've got a big number of people who purchased Maxwell as well as those who were just watching it that have been shown the holy grail only to have it taken away and replaced by a plastic cup. People want to know what is going to happen.

I spend my time talking about it because I have this messed up hope that some how NL will pull their heads out of their a$$ and fix what is wrong. I’ve also invested lots of money in it so I’m looking out for my own interests.

I'm not sure what's wrong with you dude but being rude and impolite in a public forum is not gonna aid you in any way, all you're doing now is making a even bigger fool of yourself and giving your already poor image a bad beating for the worse. So the more you try to bash me it'll reflect back instantly at yourself.

Go for it dude, give it your best shot at upsetting me with your childish behaviour.

Aww hehe for gods sake grow up Gattomanzo, you're truly acting your age repeating back the exact same thing i just said. Does that make you a cool guy in the complainers gang when you get to bash me in public like this :D i'm sorry but you got so strange lately i have no clue what got to you. But i'm sure there's some sorta mental care that can be offered to help you in the right direction again.

Time out guys lets try and keep things civil here ;)

Its understandable that alot of people are unhappy, after all that has happened and is still happening, especially people that invested alot of money.

And we all hope that maxwell gets fixed up soon, if thats possible at this point:)

You've used up your 'dude' quota for the month, so that's it. I'm from California and I don't talk like that, no reason for you to.

The thread is here to discuss the demo, and the idea that it was somewhat insulting to have new features released in a secret (at least then) demo. After people were told there was NO DEMO, never will be. Some of us are less than happy with NextLimit. Some of us are quite happy with them. Quite, quite happy, some perhaps even 'Tom is a saint' happy. All are welcome, but all should avoid silly name-calling and taunting.

By the way, Max--do you know what the sales numbers are for v1 (meaning new customers)? Could you ask 'over there'? You know I would ask myself, but I'm not welcome. I'm not VIP enough.

Tom is a saint, isn't he?

Gattomanzo, noone is gonna respect you until you learn to respect others. You're nothing but a fool here, and for every word you write the bigger the fool you become.

Ernest: I could ask but i see no reason to reveal any such info here if i get a reply from them about it. It would do me no good. Sorry sir.

Maximus pops up whenever and wherever a disparaging word is uttered about NL/MWR. Nowadays, he stays quite busy trying to put out the fires erupting all over the 3D world. He's here. He's there. He's everywhere! Being the fanboy's fanboy, Maximus cannot be cloned. So, only he can jet around slashing away at the naysayers. 24/7 it's Maximus: Bam! Boffo! Pow! Bang! "Take that you complainers." "MWR is the best thing since sliced bread!" Boom! Take that complainer. Pow!

My advice to you, Gattomanzo, is don't make eye contact unless you wish to set Maximus off. Go on your way quietly and when you look over your shoulder there will be all this smoke, bluster and profanity and the image of a whirling dervish (the cartoon variety). Smile and relax. It is over.

No problem. Email it to me when you find out. I'm just curious if my impressions of NL/MWR is lining up with the CG world at large. If NL is selling lots of licences I may have mis-judged the quality of what they released. If not, then maybe we all have a future to worry about, where we lose our investment before we get the engine that many of us think we were going to have already.

So it matters. But email's fine, too. Thanks!
