automated buildings: examples?

Hi everyone...

The company I work for (architects practice) is putting together a pitch...

I'm afraid i cant divulge too much about the brief, however, the pitch is going to be a video presentation, and at the moment we are trying to find examples of buildings/ spaces/ environments of the type that we would like to create.

Specifically, we want to create automated spaces:

i.e lights that switch on when you enter a room (no lightswitches), blinds that raise automatically as the sun goes down, drawers that slide open as you wave your hand in front of them, etc.

We have already found one quite good example - the opening scene of "The Island" (with Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansen) where the main character wakes up/ the lights go on as his feet hit the floor/ the garbage disposal opens automatically/ drawers open with the wave of a hand....

We also found an example in "the Fifth Element" where we have a bed which slides away like a drawer, and a shower which rises into the ceiling, although we have decided not to use this example (the director's vision is just a little too dystopian)...

I'm hoping that some of you can reccomend some films/ shorts/ animations/ etc. that have similar examples of automated buildings...

Any and all reccomendations will be most gratefully recieved....

thanks.

Interesting.

You'd think loads of things would spring to mind but all I could come up with was The Jetsons and Wallace and Grommit.

There were some good audio visual things in 'Minority Report' and 'I, Robot' had some good ideas too.

The ship on Hitch Hikers Guide had some Star Trek style doors and food prep gadgets. Quite an inventive film actually but probably too futuristic.

As I press the Submit Reply button I'll get that feeling that I've been no help whatsoever :D

read up on Bill Gates' (ceo of Microsoft) House in Seattle Washington.

His house is built on a hierarchy of power.

I've heard that each family member has a transmitter pin they can wear around the house.... it turns lights on when they enter a room, and off when they leave. If they want to turn on the music, it follows them around the house and only turns on in the rooms where they are. If dad walks in on a kid, dads music trumps the kid's music and takes over. I'm sure theres alot more, but thats the one I've always dug hearing about.

And I think there's something about the artwork, if I want a house full of picasso's when I walk into a room, the artwork (I'm assuming some kind of LCD screen) changes to your preference.
