Brian Smith
It's not a very sexy scene and got some more work to do, but could I get some opinions about which grass you like better in the foreground, the VRay Fur or VRay displacement.
skala67
I like the one that isnt as wild. A commercial building like this would have trimmed grass, and I think the cleaner one works well.
gods418
vray fur takes more time to render than vray displacement vrayfur looks a lot better than displacement but cmon its only grass you wont zoom and focus the grass right.. i choose vray displacement.. , and before you do that please change your trees no one thats not blurry,, a little hi res and also change your car to better ones before changing the grass must give respect to the very nice 3d of your building... regards, mike
Tim Saunders
I don't like either of them. I think you'll get the best results with displacement. Maybe come up with some better maps.
manta
I like them both, I would go with the one that renders faster...
FlytE
I recommend displacement.
Brian Smith
I asked about the grass because it was originally Fur and the client complained about it specifically. I was going to change to displacement anyway but it's nice to get reassurance from others.
jophus14
I have never used Vrayfur, but I really like the results of Vray Displacement and the render times aren't that bad. I prefer your second image.
FlytE
You can always use photoshop to make it slightly grasser round the edges (like the fur is) but still using the displacement map to keep down your rendertimes.
mahorela
The displacement is much more natural, to be honest I haven't seen much from the vray fur, whether grass, rug or anything else that looks particularly natural. If anyone has any pics or sites that feature good vray fur I would sure like to see it.
Brian Smith
Perhaps I could have not set the gravity so high on the fur so it doesn't look like such a mess. I've seen some really nice shag rugs that had to be fur. That might be the best viz application. Of course the fur is good when animating a scene as long as it's used sparingly. Parker1
Those palm tree trunks look crazy...it looks like they are neatly wrapped with white rope all the way around. Is there really a species that looks like that?
Brian Smith
They're Onyx trees. This was the way they came imported. I haven't converted the materials to VRay yet nor worked on them at all. They will look fine in the final though.
parkdark
the pics are so god but i think that you need more lightning. Everything else is good keep on working
Ricardo Eloy
I was making a few tests with fur, last week. I found it really good for close shots, waaaaay more natural than displacement. BUT, they are really time consuming, so for distant shots I'd definetly go for displacement.
alfienoakes
Now I like that teapot.. a lot...!
Tim Nelson
You should give the Max Hair & Fur effect a try. It works really great for grass, and seems to render fairly quickly as geometry too.
Sawyer
You should give the Max Hair & Fur effect a try. It works really great for grass, and seems to render fairly quickly as geometry too. I agree. I have had much better render times with max's hair. So much so I havent looked at vrays fur for a long time.
Ricardo Eloy
How does it behave with VRay? Since it doesn't show behind opacity maps, I don't use it very often (turning it into geometry sends render times thru the roof).
bigroo
the pics are so god but i think that you need more lightning. Everything else is good keep on working Talking about weather systems in renders now! In England we had a hairy cornflake, never a hairy teapot. Great image Rick, that's on my desktop right now. Could you enlighten us on the settings.
