FilthyLucre
Hey All, Sorry to make my second post a question. I was wondering what your experiences are regarding social life. Do you find a social aspect within your work? Has your work affected your life outside of work? I am currently working with one other employee within a small firm after having left a job at an estate agency. All was well for the first few months but now the days drag on and im finding it difficult to stay motivated. Everyday is spent infront of the computer with no contacts except for my colleage and boss - not a particularly enjoyable experience and certainly not sociable! Thanks J
STRAT
hehe, i was in EXACTLY the same situation as you for a good 5 years, just before my current job (now of 8 years). i left school early and spend 2 or 3 years in a populated architects office and loved it, then, just as cgi was emerging, one of the partners there decided to leave and set up a computer graphics office by himself. i went with him. then basically for the next 6 or so years it was just me and him. looooong hours most days, meeting no one. just the 2 of us, loads of computers and drawings and not much else. i really really enjoyed it and thats the time i really learned my trade, but after several years i looked at my life and saw i was turning into a social mushroom. i met no one, spent all my days with my boss, didnt go drinking with my buddies becasue i had no time etc etc. i finally quit (cos the pay was completely sh** too) and joined a massive firm of architects. where i am today. i love it now, i can chat all day, we have numerous monthly office social events, im not working stupid hours so i can go out with my m8s and treat my girlfriend properly. i dont find the actual work as exciting, but i wouldnt change it for the world now. the pay is almost double, and i can massively supliment that by freelancing in my free time. obviously we all like to be financially as sound as possible, but the main reason for working, imo, is to enjoy it. there's no way i'd ever go back to a 1 or 2 man band again, or freelance full time again (yet) even if the money was better, as these days my social well being is too healthy to upset. this is sooo important i think. but i really do feel for you m8. my advise - enjoying it as much as possible, learn your trade, then think about your situation further down the line see how you feel. alekzab
im in the same situation you are in. my social life isnt going anywhere. the connection between friendships and people i meet dont really last as long as long as i would like to, i have no time. between work and developing myself and art there isnt much room for anything more, lol. sometimes at the end of the day i feel like saying "fock this sh*t am out" and some strange force drives back the next day. where im lucky is that i met a girl with the same interests and profession, so she understands the world i see thru my eyes. thats priceless... so i dont know if this gives any insight but thats me in the social world. sorry for the typos im to lazy to go back and fix. peace!
