hi everyone, I've just downloaded VRay free 1.09.03n and installed on VIZ2005 today.

just to test out, i created a simple interior scene with a target spot light.

and the render turn out to be black, can't see a thing..

then i replace the spot light with a skylight, and got this error message:

UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: Irradiance map thread

Last marker is at globillummap.cpp, line 1750: (GlobalIllumLightDesc::Illuminate()

i've attached some screenshot of my settings, hope someone can help me out. thx!!

i'm using that same setup at work right now, but i really don't know why vray would do that.

using a standard max skylight is not the way to go with vray though, instead check the override max's GI environment in that panel. this will create a skylight, but there won't be a physical light anywhere in the scene. you'll need to change the background color since it's black by default(hit 8 and pick a color). just so you know, the lighting won't be right (it will be all blown out) if you have the skylight on but no other light in the scene...not sure why, it seems like a bug.

i can't tell you why the spotlight didn't work. make another one and play with the numbers. make sure you choose vray shadow in the light modifier panel too.

you shouldn't have to change anything in the advanced lighting panel. vray overrides all of this...did you turn on the global subdivisions? might want to try to turn it off.

now I've deleted all lightings in the scene and just use the GI overrides, multiplier set to 8 (and turned off the radiosity)

and the render turn out to be blank with a light gray color, can't see a thing in the scene. I think the lighting provided by the GI works, because its all black when i set the multipler to 1..

its just not showing any objects or shadow. thx for the replies guys.

what kind of materials are you using? they should be "standard", not "architectural".

the GI should never need to be as high as 8. that should blow everything out.

i've attached my test scene, everything should work fine.

i also noticed that your secondary bounces were right down at 0.5

The lower than 1 you make this value, the less light that will be reflected around your scene, 0.5 is actually very low. Try to keep it at 1.0 if you can, but if you feel you need to reduce it, I recommend trying not reduce it to less that 0.85.
