cain
I keep receiving a fatal error message that mental ray cannot free memory. It only seems to happens when I use displacement shader in the mental ray connection. I have 3 gigs of ram in my computer, is that not enough to use displacement? alfienoakes
I am not a mental ray man, but you need to be careful with displacement, as it can involve a lot of memory calcs, so if its a large object with a very fine displacement, that could cause problems.. You have 3 Gb of RAM.. what OS do you have, and do you have the 3 GB switch etc..? There are a lot of threads on here regarding this.. Quique
This is weird, I just came up with this problem yesterday, too. I would enable displacement on a roof to simulate a standing seam roof and during the rendering - crash. I'm also using Mental Ray. I think I'll just forget displacement for now and stick to bump and diffuse for the illusion of light and shadows. I wish I found a solution to offer...
