gdamaso88
I finished a rendering at 2400x1800 with a rendertime of about 2.5 hours. We recently got a new machine in our office ( dual xeon 3.0 ghz w/ 2gigs of RAM). Basically I'm just looking to see if this sounds reasonble for a rendering time for this complexity, and whether or not I'm getting the most of of my new computer. I'm also wondering if anyone has any optimization tips for the rendering. I'm trying to sharpen up on my Vray knowledge.
Brian Smith
I would definitely say this is too long of a rendering time. It doesn't look like you have more than 10k polygon count. Please post some of the settings you've changed, either screen shots or text.
gdamaso88
would the grass displacement add significant time to the rendering?
kippu
its the grass displacement + aluminium material thats taking up your time... you could decrease your noise threshold in the qmc sampler and get away with little less time
gfa2
Displacement does add to the render times, but I've got to tell you that in the case of this rendering it is adding to the render time for no reason. Your displacement settings or maps need some tweaking because you are not getting that individual blade of grass type look that is worth having heavy render times. Also the default settings for the Irradiance map are high and can be tweaked to still get good renderings but drastically reduce the render times. Try a preset of medium and drop the HSph sub and Interp samp settings to 20 each. Then raise them in increments of 5 or 10 if needed to clean things up. bigroo
Version 1.46.15, is that better for Viz than 1.47.03?
gdamaso88
does anyone have any similar project that they can post to give me an idea of where I'm at in terms of rendering time, hardware, and render settings ? If you could post an image too that would be great.
FlytE
I dont have anything to post right now unfortunatly, but I can say that in my experience, given the size of the image you are rendering out, the displacement and blurred reflections you have in your scene etc.... I think the time you stated sounds about right to be honest.

manta
use lightcache for secondary, and check "use for glossy rays", Also save out your IRR. map and Lightcache maps for much faster previews...
