How to create plug n play OS?

Recommended Posts

I am looking for plug n play windows. i want to run windows from the CD not from the primary partition. I am wandering how to do it? anyone can help me? becuse windows consumes so much resources of the system that we run out of memory etc etc. so my many people suggested me to work with plug n play windows instead of full installation, it requires minimum files to be loaded and run and therefore our cpu and other resources become free to work with heavy applications like max maya etc .

Can anyone tell me how to do it?

I don't think it's even possible to run XP off of a CD anymore. I know when it was originally released there were some flaws that alloed you to run it solely from a cd.... but since that was a hackers dream come true they fixed er up..

There's probably better directions you could take to increase resources for gaining productivity....

edit : (okay I just reread your post,.... I read it wrong the first time, you just want to load not so many options.... ooops, anyways second comment still holds true)

Well thanks for the replies and link to both of u. I have already gone through these processes which are on 3dlurv but my friend suggested me to make the windows boot from the CD. leme tell you what and how it works. it is just like the installation of windows on your hard disk but it is burnt on the CD, the system requires the CD to boot and we enter the CD in the CD rom. It takes approx 520MB on the disk, then windows runs from the CD and after complete boot and when we get the desktop whereas other softwares are intalled on the hard disk. when ever we run our applications like 3dsmax, it loads its files and OS requires any file, it asks for the CD if we had ejected it. So, windows is loaded into system cache after booting and then we dont need to run it from harddisk, this way windows dosnt consume too much resources.

i know this topic is little bit painful and if i will do it, i will definately post it here even how to use the plug n play OS and give it as open source according to system configuration to help all of other members of 3D community.

Anyway, if there is best way to optimize the OS, i shall be looking for it.

Thanks to all

Are you sure this is a good idea? It doesn't seem to me as if it saves you very much, if it saves you anything at all. The only benefit I see is if Windows, applications and virtual memory are trying to access the disk all at the same time, in which case Windows would be going to the CD instead. So if you really want to make your system a tiny bit faster by doing something ridiculous, install three SATA hard disks. Install Windows on the first one, your applications on the second and keep your files on the third. Virtual memory file can go with Windows, just have enough RAM so it won't get much use.

However, I still think your CD solution either won't work (doesn't Windows and every application installer constantly write and change file in the Windows directory and the registry?), or will actually make your computer slower (CDs are slower than hard drives).

i m agreed with you that acessing the virtual memory will be problem for the CD adn as it is ROM. this iwas the base of my question, second, you are talking about the system drives and video drives as well, means os on 1 hard disk and applications on the second. i m doing the same. but i was thinking about resources that whether it is posstible to save the resources for my applications. thanks for your comments.
