Digital Portfolios

I have a few months before I need to submit my student digital portfolio for university, and would just like to know if anyone has their own digital portfolio that they think is an excellent example, or if they know of any that are really good?

Don't worry, I'm not going to steal all the idea's! But as I have a few months id really like to start teaching myself some Flash and Dreamweaver so that I have a really good submission ready in time.

Also, if anyone knows of any good Flash/DW tutorial sites or books that maybe cater towards this sort of thing (rather than ones teaching you how to make games or the like) then I'd really appreciate if you could point me in that direction!

Many thanks,

Gary.

i have a site which is 50% complete, http://www.virtualform.net - was a a bit of pet project that i need to get round to finishing off but your more than welcome to have a look. (you'll need braodband as its not designed for dial up)

good flash sites are:

http://www.kirupa.com

http://www.gotandlearn.com

http://www.senocular.com

i'm sure these sites will also have links to other relavent sites too.

Hmmm, Director maybe looks a bit overkill for what im hoping to achieve. The examples of work on the macromedia website also look a bit cheesy, I take it that it's used to create interactive media on dvd's and stuff a lot?

I would also recommend Director for creating your digital portfolio. It's a great tool for creating dynamic interactive cd's, but planning the layout is key.

I learned to use Director from the computer arts special magazine #42, titled: Create and design the ultimate Digital portfolio.

http://www.computerarts.co.uk/

I then attended a course to fill in the gaps (paid for by my employer)

I'd be happy to try and help in any way if you have any questions, but don't know of any good tutorials on the net.

Direcor movies are not suitable for posting online.

true but not totally......... If you stay conscience about keeping your image sizes optimized and use lingo friendly to both a standalone projector and a shockwave projector, you can go to web. Do all that and you can export your file to a shockwave file. Downside.... while 98% of the computers on the internet have a flash player installed the majority don't have shockwave installed.... its just not as popular.

I took a side study in programming while in college.... it kind of leaned me towards building my portfolio in director, I mean it's pretty much flash on steroids. But when it comes to web..... dude I got nothing, I leave that to the web guys for now. For my website I bought a template on www.templatemonster.com and just filled in the text and photos. They have sections on their site for artists and photographers, this could give you some ideas for creativity and organization. Yes I realizeI took the easy way out buying a template.... but I never claimed to be good at web stuff, I speacialize in 3D... not web.

i taught myself director, and have created a few presentations and my own cds with it

It is spposed to be dedicated to this, but ive always been plagued with slow load up speeds, and like you mentioned, if i publish to web most people wont hang around waiting for shockwave to download.

its a great program, however i feel that flash has taken over and engolfed it.

Therefore, if i was giving choice now, id learn flash
