Video Compression; Codecs

currently our studio uses 3ivx codec to compress our animations with combustion and it supports mpeg 4, so we get nice still frames when the video is pause on a segment of the animation. but it does weird stuff in other machines where the codec is experied or not installed. im looking for a generic codec that plays in generic computer players like WMP and QTIME, and compresses nicely.

so can you guys share what you are using out there.

thanks

alex

There's a lot more to it than just using the right codec...there are numerous settings (with the correct software of course) that allow for much better compression and playback quality. Within our office, we only compress ourselves for demo purposes. We would never dream of doing our own video editing as there are experts that do it everyday that can blow away anything we can do. We always send it to an editor that does only editing.
