Mario Pende
I think youll have to model for this one a volume and then add very sharp displacement.

ipdesigner
can anyone explain how it is done bye vray displacement??? *if you are using Vray render engine, you can apply to an object quietly doing better on plane the 'Vray Displacement' modifier:) . it gives a good result for carpet and even on grass. BunGHoLe
anvaraziz could you tell us why you apply MeshSmooth but you keep the Iretations to 0? Is it better that way and why?
GeraldH
...that's some thick-ass ruggage...

FlytE
I dont think the meshsmooth(iterations=0) is proabably necessary if you are using a vray displacement mod. You would really only use that if you were using displacement in the material itself. Usually people apply the meshsmooth on order to make the displacement map wrap around the geometry and join at all sides. In normal displacement, the texture will often appear offset from the geometry meaning that it wont join at the edges. The meshsmooth with iterations=0 just pulls it back into the face so the displacement meets at the edge again.
Thablanch
You do need to smooth it, even if it is the modifier, or else, your edges are opening
FlytE
Im too tired to try it for myself, so I will just take your word for it
FlytE
the geometry probably needs a rug texture. the vray displacement mod's black and white texture is only for creating the bump that you see, the actual rug material texture is applied as normal to the geometry. anvaraziz
u can texture it with ur own maps, normaly i use fall off maps on diffuse with 2 colors, LINK for the displace map Used in this tuto.. Thanks.....
fabricf
when I put the vray displacement map in the plane the tiles of my image doesnt ajust with the tiles on the material.... how can i change it??? Image 1 without the displacement ( is this the correct tile setup) image 2 with the displacement.... (but it doesnt repeat the image in 5 ways that is the correct scale) =(
evanmister
when i try this tutorial i get an error from vray that says: "invalid surface normal (0,0,0) for box01, using geometric normal" why is that? thanks
