Jason Matthews
Hey guys. I am changing out my 3.0GHz HT P4 chip with a new 3.0EGHz HT P4 chip because my old processor is overheating like crazy. This is going to be a quick fix until I can build a new comp. The problem is that when I put in the new chip my motherboard gives me a verbal error saying "System error due to cpu overclocking." I checked the bios and everything is set to default. I looked up the specs of the processors and it turns out that the old processor has a L2 cache of 512Kb. The new processor has an L2 cache of 1MB. I have an ASUS P4P800 Deluxe motherboard nd it will ony support 512 L2 cache. The question is do you think I am getting this error because of the L2 cache? What would be the fix? Upgrading drivers for the MB? Thanks.

tecton3d
check with Asus and see if you need to flash to a new bios version. Sometimes that's all thats needed to recognize a hardware upgrade... may work, may not;)
