purple3d
Im currently using lightwave as my main 3d package, what ive noticed is that more and more people are using max, so i thought id spend sometime learning some new programs. What im confused about is what version of autocad, ie autocad viz or just plain autocad are people using to draw there blueprints then import them into 3d studio max to carry on modeling in. Is it still the best way to work, create blueprints in autocad get the rough outline down and then import the model into 3ds max, is there much modeling then done in 3ds max or is it just finishing touches? Would be great if someone could explain there workflow, been trying to go through the forums but cant find anything which expalins it to me. Nic H
Id avoid autocad alltogether, once you get competent in max with lines its alot quicker cleaner and controllable. I dont see any need to add another step/program.
manta
Well the reason you did'nt find an answer to your workflow question is because there are so many workflows that work (boy that was twisted) everyone has there own... You should at least know enough autocad to be able to clean-up a drawing, should the architect give you a DWG with a ton of useless stuff in it, why make your job any harder than it has to be... As far as learning Max that'll be tough, since you'll only get 30 days to do it, I don't know why Max doesn't have the same thing as Maya's PLE.... I have seen some incredible work done with Lightwave especially in conjunction with Fprime, do you have any work you can show us, and what is your current workflow ? IC
I use LightWave and up until now I've done most of my modeling in Autocad, exporting the model as a 3ds to modeler. Then I would refine the model and texture it in modeler/layout. However, now I have LWCad which integrates amazingly well into modeler to form a cad-like setup so I can snap and sketch/draft as easily as I can in Autocad. Having used AutoCad and now ADT for about 15 years, I can honestly say this little plug in (when combined with LightWave's other excellent modelling tools) is much better for arch viz modelling. purple3d
I think the main reason for knowing a little about autocad was to do what manta said, most companys now adays like you to have a little experiance. So would that been using plain autocad 2007 ? or one of the autodesk viz packages ? I've been using LWcad like you say its just so easy to use, the problem im having is that in the UK, 9/10 every job is 3ds max and autocad at the moment, and 1/10 its lightwave. Thats why id like to be able to mainly model in 3ds max, but also know a little about autocad, does anyone have a link to a tutorial where blueprints are bought into 3ds max and set as the background then traced ?
