Nic H
Hi there. I am putting together a new system for my personal 3D work, mostly architectural visualization (stills mainly). It is going to be my main home workstation and will be used for rendering overnight. I have read pretty much all the posts regarding workstation configurations and I think what iv got here should be all right, but when spending a lot of money I want to get it right! I use mainly 3Dmax, V-ray, ArchiCAD, and Photoshop. I have a limited budget of around $5000.00 AUD including monitor (a Dell 24” I v specced at the moment) XP operating system and keyboard/ mouse plus assembly. I have gone for the fastest single dual core processor I can afford, a midlevel graphics card (running directx9) as I don’t really feel for the work Id do I would benefit greatly from a Quadro. 2 GB of DDR2 RAM and two hard drives (a 150GB WD raptor for system, 300 GB storage) Could some of you guys have a look-see over the components below and see what you think and where I might be able to improve the performance/price ratio? Would I be better off with an Opteron 280 over an X2 5000? Also WINXP 32 or 64? Comments? Experiences? Thanks! AJLynn
I think it's just that we get so many of these now, the ability to influence somebody's cpu speed halfway around the world isn't as exciting as it used to be It looks like you've read these threads before and you already know what you're doing, so my advice is to just buy something. Only comment would be that the pre-release CPU is probably not a great idea if you're not 100% sure it will ship soon.
Nic H
True, its just another workstation. Except for the person paying! Im fairly confident with it so I might as well press pay. Thanks
