tecton3d
Hey all, I've been playing with FR and have found out that such it doesn't like Autocad Arch. Desktop '06 models... images rendered have artifacts all over the place, despite attempst at using different materials and material types. These little devils occur whether or not the rendering is full GI or not, QMC, HyperGI, FR GI... etc... no amount of AA can fix it either. does anyone have experience with this? is there a workaround for such a phenomenon. disclaimer: I know I should use Max to model in (that's what the Cebas moderators suggested too), it's something I've just been putting off
manta
Can you post an image so we can see what the problem is... it could be coplaner faces or something else that someone might recognize...
tecton3d
doh ~ should've done that already... the rend itself sucks but just to see what I'm talking about: far left-middle, the column, on the backwall, and the glass on the upper right
manta
It could be coplaner faces, have you checked the model in those areas ? There could be more than one face occupying the same space...
tecton3d
I have checked the model and it's clean. It was solid-modeled in Acad with boxes so I took extra effort to keep the model clean upon export. I even went back into Autocad and re-unioned everything that should have been a single object... and still no change! could it be that I made the model using solids? thanks for your help ! Erik
Delete all style/parent objects. use this script or part of it.... http://www.jonseagull.com/files/DWG_cleanup.mcr Erik
Matt Clementson
I can't say anything other than the reply I gave you on the Cebas forums. This definitely looks like a geometry problem - MAX's AutoCAD import is not the greatest. Best way to track this down is to selectively hide object and re-render until you find the object that causes the problem. Then delete/remodel/reimport that object. Coplanar faces and open/unwelded edges will cause this kind of thing.
tecton3d
thanks for the replies matt ~ i wasn't second-guessing your earlier advice, just poking around about another possible solution. I'll go through all the objects in the file and re-render and see if I can't sniff out the culprit. Thanks
mtutaj
Just wondering how the adjustments were going? any luck with the artifacts? Mike
tecton3d
sorry for the late post, I got really busy and couldn't get back:D I started with the lights and began re-rendering the scene after deleting each and every light and nothing changed until I got to the cylinder lights I had placed in the ceiling along the edges of the bulkhead. Once I got rid of them, the artifacts dissapeared! I'm trying to remember exactly how I handled them when placing in the scene and I got lazy and scaled (via Max) the cylinder light instead of changing its height through the modify tab... tisk tisk... : ) Anyway, I'm going to try to replace the culprit cylinder lights with new ones that are modified from the modify tab and see what happens... I'll post the results soon. cheers
