stevewright
I need to learn to use max asap, ive been visualising for nearly 3 yrs using Vectorworks and Artlantis ( I studied Interior Design, and this was theyre software of choice, visualising came as a sideline and kicked of from there) Prob is, for my own sanity i need to find a new job, but i cannot find anywhere that dont require Max Its something i know i need to learn, and indeed i want to learn, as its possibilities are endless, however i cannot afford the courses, and books havent helped me. anyone know of any good (cheap) video tutorals or DVDs that are specifically for Architecture/buildings and not how to model a bug eyed alien? frank1331
A great deal of architecture firms use AutoCAD or ADT to do their modeling, and use Max to render them. So if you have a knowledge of AutoCAD you may be better off than you think. As far as Max tutorials on DVD, I have not really seen too many that are geared toward the architecture field. YTou may try looking for Autodesk Viz tutorials. Its a scaled down version of Max specifically for architecture. Look for some books on either Viz or Max. Most have great written tutorials in them. Best book I found for newer Max users is called "3DS MAX 8 ARCHITECTURAL VISUALIZATION" BY Brian L. Smith (around these forums alot) Its not a DVD but it will get you what you need to know pretty quickly.

imgumbydammit
gnomon has a lighting with vray series that uses max...3dquakers has stuff that covers basic architectural construction and lighting ...3ds max 8 foundations of architecture book,it can be had in pdf format for 1/2 of the hardcover at friends of ed...evermotion.org has a ton of stuff... don't entirely discount the "how to make an alien" type tutorials (particularly since so many are out there and free ) as they teach the toolset at least.
