eric samuel
How fast are u guys in 3d? i tend to be really really slow modelling buildings. It took me 2 entire weeks to model a building and one of my friends did it in 3 days. How could i get faster in 3d? Specially in buildings. wilky9
Work big to small, meaning, don't focus on details before you get the main form of the building created. This is something with I've struggled with, from my drawing classes in college to today.
eric samuel
Yeah thats one of my main problems, the attention i put to the little details. One of the main problems that i see is when i m doing buildings that are no symetrical. Whats the best approach when modeling a building. Should i do long walls first and them start making the holes of the windows? I know there is not a magical tutorial that would make me faster. But maybe there could be a methodology that i could used to be faster.
Ricardo Eloy
Methodology is something you'll probably have to come up with by yourself. For instance, I model everything in max (no AutoCAD) only after I've got it all planned. That avoids the unpleasant task of struggling with the software when you could be doing some real production. I only start modeling after I know exactly what I'm gonna do. Makes it faster and with less errors.

BrianKitts
learn to use keyboard commands and shortcut keys. It doesn't matter what program you use this will increase your productivity. When you are no longer slowly drag clicking through menus, and navigating tool bars.... once you just start slamming keys to get the things you want... you'll pick up your speed. I was kind of disappointed when max quit putting shortcut key hints on the splash screen... I think that was back in 5 or 6, I know you can pull up the keyguide from the customize interface options, but it was nice to pick a new one up everynow and then just from waiting for the program to open. NeonMojo
If you still have an older version of max on your computer you can just copy splash.swf into the max 8 root directory and it will show you the old splash screen with shortcuts on startup... not a pretty solution, but it works. you can also make your own splash.bmp and put it in the max root directory if you want a custom splash screen
bigroo
Read all of the documentation that the client or architect gives you TWICE or more! It will save time & money later to know what you are constructing before you set out. ie. make sure you have all the info!
