A little bit of procedural in this situation can not be bad... I agree with BunGHoLe, but if you see a big chunk of it, road can look stretch and bitmap can end up splotchy. I'm always using a mix of maps / procedural for that kind of work

What I do for asphalt is start with a procedural cellular map. It looks realistic up close, but not in the distance. So then texture bake it, tweak it in photoshop and reapply as a bitmap. Don't forget to add a bit of glossy falloff reflection to the road so it reflects more environment as it approaches the horizon.
