the list sounds promising... but so did V1...errr RC1... and RC2... RC3-5 I didn't bother with... after so many lackluster updates/upgrades, it's really hard to get all a-twitter.

Perhaps by V1.5 we will have FULL FUNCTIONALITY which should have been present in V1.

well, at least according to currently held computer software conventions stating that a full version release should at least be fully functional and free of all obvious bugs or flaws.

One can hope eh?

I too will give it a few days for the more brave... or perhaps foolhardy wade forth into the V1.1 fray. Maxfray? We shall see.

Haven't had a chance to actually use it yet, but if they've done a good job with some of the things on the list - the materials wizards (I ran MXED under Rosetta and these looked promising), the noise pattern, dielectrics improvement, and updated plugins - it's worth another try for me.

The projector/UV Map channel issue with the 3ds Max plug-in makes it useless for me. I think they must have tested the Max plug-in with a chrome sphere in a diffuse box.

I had a fairly nice scene going in V1 that I was looking forward to rendering with 1.1. That's not going to happen.

I have the same junk with the LW plug.

often I have to go into studio to fix the projector issue... even then it often just doesn't work and the only way I can get it to work is DELETE the texture entirely, create the texture in lightwave and make the mxm based on the texture. Even then it doesn't do the emitter and a couple other channels properly.

when I then try to ADD these elements back in, it fails with the Not enuff(0) error.

rinse, repeat

god help me if I ever actually try to create a texture right in maxwell. it's a crapshoot if it will render without an error.

I haven't downloaded it yet but from what I've heard already it doesn’t sound like a vast improvement over V1. Can anyone tell if it's any faster?

It seems to be a "Good News/Bad News" release. The good news is that they've supposedly fixed several serious problems, improved render speed somewhat, updated most of the plug-ins and given us a pretty nifty Material Wizard. The bad news is the situation with UV mapping and projectors with several of the plug-ins. It makes the 3ds Max plug-in unuseable for me. (I don't think I've ever used the roll-eyes emoticon before because I think it's very rude, however...)

I really don't understand these guys’s, 3D Studio makes up the largest portion of their plugin users and they can't devote a little extra time into getting it to work properly.

Nice image, Fran - I think it's the first good architectural one I've seen using a recent version. Only thing I think it needs is some adjustments to the plant materials - maybe the updated SSS would help, if it works.

Thanks Andrew - is that a trick question? :) I can hardly get a sphere in a box to render out of Max with V1.1. :(

BTW, here is a link to that piccie for those who can't access the forum:

No, not a trick question... just didn't read your previous posts closely enough.

Was curious mostly to see if you could see any differences btw versions, but now I realize that you clearly can!

Thanks, Fran. You always do great work and this is no exception. Is the foliage shadow done with a blurred bitmap/alpha or did MWR do the soft blurring?

It's opacity maps with sharp edges. M~R did the blurring.

Nice pillows.

I'm going to Pillow School anyway. :D
