mean_pixel
Exporting a model to .3ds or .obj from Sketchup to 3dsmax 8 gives me a ton of flipped faces. Is there any way around this? Is it one of those things that just require hours of cleanup, or perhaps a third party program could handle the data better (ala polytrans, etc) Thanks in advance, mp
AJLynn
Did you check the faces in Sketchup? It's pretty easy to have them backward in Sketchup without ever noticing - in the default material, purple is back but when you start adding materials you lose that indicator. VTWales33
If you go under the View menu > Rendering > Monochrome...this will display which faces need to be flipped to the front (tan) side. Below is a ruby script that you can drop into your Plug-Ins folder and with one click on each surface that needs to be reversed it will flip them. It saves a ton of time. The tool will appear under the Tools menu > LeftClickReverseTool once you have it in the Plug In folder. Hope this helps.
AJLynn
That's a good one. I've just got a keyboard shortcut (F for flip), go into monochrome mode, select a bunch of faces and hit F.
aaron-cds
Nice ruby script. Thanks.
Brian Cassil
Very handy script there. I'm working more and more with designers who model in skectchup and they don't really understand why a flipped face is bad (or what it is for that matter).
