shake for compositing?

The architectural work I'm doing requires investment in either After Effects or Commotion. But I'm completely tempted by Shake with it's huge price drop to $500 down from $3k.

I have no idea about this, but should I be worried at all about the fact that this is apparently the last (and possibly unsupported?) version...??

Anyone have any insight into this?

That depends, do you already use Mac's ??

I had to look up Commotion, had never heard of it, it looks ok...

Shake is a great product, at a great price now, but you'll need Mac hardware, of coarse now you can buy a Mac and use windows on it, so you don't have to totally switch...

It will be cheaper to buy after effects or COMBUSTION, (if you use 3ds max combustion intergrates well with Max), than to buy a Mac and Shake

doh!

...I was actually referring to *combustion* not commotion, sorry for the typo!

I understand what you're suggesting tho... I think If it were upto me I'd go out and get it (shake) right now. Just really looking for a combustion / shake comparison - to get the guys here excited too..

Interestingly I can see us actually getting this for a Mac, as we'll be going for Final Cut pro for most of our eidt work I believe.

Shake is pure nodal compositing. Designed for compositing, pulling keys, tracking ect......

Motion graphics, 2.5D work and the AE/Combustion bells and whistles are not always easy to accomplish in shake. Really depends upon how you are going to use these applications.

Shake is a hard core compositing application. Once you get past the noodles it is slick and can speed up comp alot. Though FCP can do much of the same procedures in a very similar fashion I've been told ;)

haha, that's pretty funny, you actually typo'd an actual compositing app, which by the way, is only $500 also...

I think it all depends on how far you want to take this, as it has been said, shake is node based compositing, and will probably take a while to learn, have you used any node based systems ? do you have any compositing experience ?
