wilky9
Has anyone picked up this edition, and is it worth the money? Anything in there that doesn't get discussed daily on this forum?
frank1331
I picked it up last week. Its a heafty 15 dollars. I would not really recomend it. Everything in it you can find in here.
IC
Putting aside the arch viz supplement (which wasn't ground breaking to be honest) it's still an entertaining magazine and it's normally always a good read in my opinion. But then I like all aspects of CG.
TheAllusionisst
I personally think 3DWorld is a great magazine and it is always close to $15.00. What I thought was really cool was to see CG Architect get so much publicity out of it Way to go Jeff!
bigroo
It's fine IMHO if you like to create animations or amazing cloud bursting scenes with helicopters buzzing nearby. It doesn't really favour max enough for me in an archviz context even though the supplement was ok (little feature by Jeff done ages ago I guess - pre salary survey) I used to rave about this mag but I'm getting a little disappointed lately. I think they need to do a spin off dedicated to architectural visualisation to demand more of my cash in the future. Just read it in WH Smith's in your lunch hour - I do to see if it's worth parting with my £'s. If you're going to get it, subscribe - it works out cheaper. Nic H
The magazine is good mostly, allthough here in australia to get teh new issue its $ 24.50 AUD!!! It tends to have alot of really s*** tutorials for mostly freeware or unknown sftware though. The archiviz supplement was average. The survey good though. IC
Just read it in WH Smith's in your lunch hour - I do to see if it's worth parting with my £'s. If you're going to get it, subscribe - it works out cheaper. I do that too because I cancelled my subscription when it went through a really dull period but it's still got more interesting articles on CG than just about any other publication I know of. It's not a 3ds Max magazine or an architectural journal so they have to keep it general enough for users of all 3d software to get something from it. And well done to Strat for getting an image published in the supplement! Sorry mate I only noticed last night.
STRAT
And well done to Strat for getting an image published in the supplement! Sorry mate I only noticed last night. well thank you 8@) i only get it subscribed because my boss pays for it. i wouldnt pay for it myself. i like the mag, but more or less only flick through it. but i like bigroo's idea about an archi cg mag. i think this would be excellent. Ray
Yes, an actual magazine that you can take into the, er, um, 'reading room.' Not just an online pdf.
STRAT
Yes, an actual magazine that you can take into the, er, um, 'reading room.' Not just an online pdf. ah, the place where you 'log-on' and 'down-load' so to speak? (or are we on completely different wavelengths here)
IC
But who would publish a magazine like this? Doing so costs a fortune in initial outlay and it's not exactly mainstream audience stuff. I sometimes struggle to find a stockist for 3DWorld. Narrow that reader group down again and you're back to an online pdf.
Sketchrender
publish it on line for 5 euros and it would do better. it's all the ads that get me. The 16 page ad for web hosting p*ssed me off. phil

vizwhiz
what would it Take To do a quarterly pub here at cgarchitect.com? (well, other Than Jeff's approval??) how about getting some cg specific (whatever softwares 'we' are using) articles written by our own cg participants, (ok, does anyone have Time?) something even 10 pages every 3 months as a pdf download even a $2.50 pay-per-view, That would work well enough for me maybe some free on-line snippets To get us interested but something meaty worth reading while riding The porcelain bus just an idea resource links, just anything useful maybe run a POLL and see what people want The MOST ???? cafepress.com now has a (no load free up-front) book publishing deal you set up what you want printed, and people can order it online and you keep The 'mark-up', (net profit) and They do all of This for FREE, no out-of-pocket cost To The writer(s) i am sure we could do This either here at cgarchitect.com or in a hardcopy version ** if Jeff was To approve of an Idea like This i would 'volunteer' To get Things going and organize it, but NOT do all The work we could write our own NEW unpublished Tutorials do a Feature Interview with Industry icons, etc like Jeff, Strat, EB III, Christopher Nichols and Others and maybe get The 'current' advertisers To get on board (This is definately Jeff's domain) something not-Too-large, but useful, informative & elegant a 25 page mini-book at cafepress might run about $10 USD just an Idea randy
