jonrempel
This is a home for a local builder using Viz 2006 and mental ray. I can't seem to get a realistic looking glass and some depth with the grass. I tried Jeff Pattons tutorial for grass but Viz does not have the height map displacement. I'd appreciate any help and c&c that you may have. Thanks, Jon Rempel
Thiago de Andrade
I use the lume shader for glass in a "Mental Ray" parent. Don't forget to add a shadow shader to the slot below "diffuse", otherwise you'll get no shadows on the inside through the window. If you're using GI photons you should also add the "photon base" shader and tweak the transparency slot. This way, photons emitted from the sun or any other outdoor light will affect and take part of the lighting inside your house. The lume shaders are all very useful, easy, and very quick. I always use them for metals, water and glass. Concerning the grass, I prefer to add it in post production using Photoshop, because displacement is time-consuming and I experience memory problems when the surface is too large and the parameters are high. Good luck.
