I find this stupid!

First, Syd was present just on the first album of Pink Floyd and yes he did wrote a lot of songs on that album.

But seriously I even dont refer the name Pink Floyd to the 1st album. Its far from their style that has evolved when Syd left and David jumped into the band.

yes, you are correct about his lack of direct involvement in the evolution of floyd, but the inspiration of many of their greatest songs and albums (wish you were here, the wall) were directly related to Syd Barrett. He did go on to a life of nothing while Floyd rose to the stratosphere, but in the beginning without him, most likely no floyd. They would have ended up finishing school and becoming architects....god forbid....;)
