3darchitect
Ok, so here's the deal. I'm new to 3D rendering in general so my knowledge of 3ds is very minimal. I made my model in ADT (architectural) and tried importing into 3ds. What I have to end up doing is exporting the ADT file to VIZ Render, then saving that and opening it in 3ds. Well, I want to apply my materials in 3ds by entity not by layer, because that's the way I need it. So, if anyone knows how I can do that, or do a better import, I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks from the geeky loser novice
John Dollus
Which versions of both are you using? You should be able to directly link your dwg file from ADT into Max with no problems. In the link presets, you have the option of using layers or entities. Why do you require entities instead of layers? Entities generates the most individual objects which can really bog a systems down.
3darchitect
ADT 2004 and 3ds 7 Yeaa.... it's complicated. The building has a lot of different little parts and facets that need different materials. Yes, I realize that I screwed myself my modeling in ADT in the first place, but I'm planning on taking a class for modeling in 3ds. I also can do a direct import from ADT to 3ds with file link, but the only thing is, the windows on the building are all one entity and the frames and glass aren't separate. I get that when I go from ADT, to VIZ Render, to 3ds. Also, when I use file link manager to import the file, even if I choose the option to select by entity or block, it still applies by layer. Am I being dumb or does the computer not like me...
