tecton3d
that would be a good system but it would be worth waiting for Intel's new Xeon processor called the Woodcrest (51xx designation). They have been beating AMD's dualcore Opterons in nearly all benchmarks and would make great 3d workstation CPU's. If you don't want to wait for Woodcrest, then go with a Dual dualcore Opteron 2xx series system. It would be much faster than your spec'd xeon machine. Nvidia is generally preferred to ATI ... esp the NvQuadros for 3d studio 2gb of ram isn't a whole lot but that can be upgraded easily as you need. cheers
AJLynn
OTOH, if you work for a company that buys Dells exclusively that's a good deal for you, the CPU isn't as fast as what you can get soon but it's not that far behind and the v7200 is pretty kickass. You'll want the 20" monitor, it's got a lot more pixels. I don't really know the British market, so I'm assuming you've already shopped around and the price is competitive.
