gods418
im having memory error when using lightcache as my second bounce but when using quasi monte carlo is ok only it renders longer my first bounce is irradiance map. pc that i use is a dual xeon 2.8ghz and 2gig ram, so i dont think my memory is not enough. how can i fix this memory erorr. thanks:( :(
skogskalle
I have 2 gig ram as well and have run out of memory on several projects... Try using the dynamic memory option, or enable the 3 gb switch... perhaps its another problem... I have no idea... I just know that 2 gigs isnt always enough... /k
gods418
where is this 3gb switch,, i lower my irradiance map and lightcache settings renders ok but rendering not so nice, got some artifacts.....
AJLynn
The 3GB switch won't help when you have 2GB of RAM installed. There are ways of killing your RAM and ways to fix it. Instances use less RAM than copies, low poly counts use less RAM, lower ray counts use less RAM (e.g., anything glossy makes your rays count go up). Caustics can use a ton of RAM, as can the rendered frame window when you're at high resolutions. I'm working on a scene now where I just can't do photon caustics (but my GI caustics are good enough). skogskalle
The 3GB swith WILL help even though you only have 2 GB of RAM.... Cant remember the exact numbers, but without the switch MAX can only use about 1,5 GB before it crashes, and with the switch enabled you can go a little higher, to about 1,7 GB I think. Do a search for "3 GB switch" and youll find some threads on how to enable it.
drvox
Hi all Can anybody tell me if the message that is being discussed is this one: "Warning: invalid cache light sample(s)" I'm having this message when I use LightCache as second bounce and I don't know what does it means and what can I do to fix it... I wonder if the problem has to do with little memory... Best Regards
gods418
no is not that, what im having is something like " error: memory 00488848 " something like that i cant remember the whole string then after that it just close 3dsmax. yours is a warning only and its in the vray message box right??? drvox
Yes, it renders the image but shows that warning in the Vray render dialog box... But I'm worried about how to fix it... cant get any resources that can help lead with that... Thanks a lot! Regards
Jeffrey
Yes, it renders the image but shows that warning in the Vray render dialog box... But I'm worried about how to fix it... cant get any resources that can help lead with that... I can be wrong but everytime when I have complicated vray displacement mod geometry, the same error message pop up. if you do have them, do re do the geometry. That's how i made the erroe go away.. hope it helps:D
drvox
I've been formating my pc so i haven't been able to test yours suggestions...Hope tomorrow everything is done, so that i can restart my work... Anyway, Jeffrey what is the vray displacement mod geometry... sorry but i'm not familiar with that...actually i'm working with vray for less than a week... Thanks a lot to all!! FlytE
Ha!, cant believe i didnt notice this thread. I have been experiencing NUMEROUS problems with light cache lately. It simply does not seem to be able to handle rendering a light cache at a large size.... reduction in size on a trial and error basis can eventually get you to within the limit of its ability to render it out but this can often be too low. Another deduction I have made is that light cache just doesnt like to work with vray displacement mod, you can pretty much forget using it. I feel like i must be missing something becuase i see alot of people rendering images using lightcache but for some reason its luck of the draw for me as to whether or not it will render it out without crashing. I wouldnt advice someone against using lightcache...just to expect a bump ride LOL.
Craig Ramsay
If you have a lot of heavy geometry in your scene like trees, cars etc. try converting them to Vray proxies, that should save you a bunch of RAM and let you render your scene.
gods418
so use quasi monte carlo instead??? but i find lightcache very fast! any suggestions for an iradiance map and quasi monte carlo combination??? i have an iradiance map viewer, it can help you a lot when saving irradiance map to files....... if you may need all you have to do is ask dont worry its free..... drvox
Hi Tanks all for your help!! Unfortunely I haven't got a chance to try yours tips yet...I'm having some problems with my computer... hope to get it fixed soon! Anyway, I haven't used the Vray displacement mod and I tried to render without Lightcache... I couldn't get anything but a black picture... When I delete all objects derived from extruded lines and rectangles, I get the scene rendered...Can see what's wrong there... From the tips I read I realised that is not a good idea to use Lightcache... Is there a great difference between quasimontecarlo and Lightcache? I'm discovering the woderfull world of Vray but it's quite complex...specially for somebody who studied management and just has architecture and 3d modeling as a hobbie !! Last thing, how can I get the water material for Vray? Thanks a lot for all and sorry for any language mistakes...I'm from Portugal and I have to say that this is the best forum of all I've ever seen, that's why I only post my questions here from now on!! Congratulations for this amazing forum!! Thanks all!! King Regards
