This quote is from the LW vs MAX thread.

- Model in MICROSTATION V8-2004

- Link to MAX 8 for texturing/lighting/cameras

- Render out with VRay

- Post Process with ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS2

SEND TO CLIENT FOR HUGE SMILES! :D

Is the modeling easier than within max?? I have searched the web for some promotional material for MicroV8 but didn't find anything usefull. How is the modeling in microV8 compared to modeling in max?? what are the procedures.

Is there something where one can define the walls, windows, doors and roof(dimension) in a autocad drawing and then a 3d model is generated ready to be used within max, maya or LW??

Koper,

I am an architect and have been using Microstation for over 10 years. I feel that for architecturally specific modeling it is a very acurate and powerful modeling tool. MAX is great in many ways but I just feel that I have more CAD like control of my models in Microstation than I do in MAX. Of course I am biased because I learned Microstation in college and have been using it ever since. The reason I mentioned it in that post is because Ryan is a former Microstation user and I was just pushing his buttons.

Microstation XM is the latest release with some big improvments over V8.

IF you are looking for a parametric modeller for MS then you will have to use Triforma. In my opinion it is not worth the effort. It is a BIM application similar to revit and ADT. There are some fantastic modeling tools in MS and Triforma and once you have your head around the methodes it is quick. The refereance (or XRef) tool is second to none and very powerful. MS can handle huge data sets if you manage your projects properly. There is quite a bit of IT support needed to get MS up and running but once its done you will be flying.

MS is good in the fact that it can read and write dwg files, which is how you will get your model into max. Unless you really need the precise modelng that you achieve with CAD apps you are problably better off modeling in Max
