loft question

I have a question regarding the loft function in 3ds max.

 

What has happened is that I have poly modeled an object and would like to 'outline' it with a cylindrical loft. What I did is selected the edges that I would like to be "lofted" detatched them, created an editable spline.

 

Now, I am unable to use this as my path for the loft function, is there any way to do this, or will I have to do it manually?

In some cases this can be happened. Do you make spline by "Create Shape from selection"?

 

Try this workaround:

 

* make line at needed viewport (in the top, for example)

* attach shape (which you created from poly) to this line

* remove segments of line created at first step from shape

 

Try loft again :)
