Looking for a job elsewhere (NOT a job posting/request)

Well, I've recently decided I dont want to live here (WI) anymore. I want a bigger city where salaries are higher and some warmth possibly.

What are good resources to look for jobs in other states or to find more info on employability in certain areas?

Any help would be appreciated.

You could look up asai.org or nysr.com and look up some rendering companies. Or go to Siggraph, drop off your resume and see who's hiring. Rendering studios seem to be desperate for good help, so as long as you've got some decent work to show, you shouldn't have too much of a problem.

LOL, gonna bail huh?

Not that you can be blamed for NOT "wanting to escape to Wisconsin"hehehe

Vegas ain't too bad....look for high growth regions, areas of 'large scale' top end residential development.

Consider something to augment a purely ArchViz existance too... that's just good sound advise no matter where you are geographically, just in case.

LOL But hey Waukesha WI made #35 on the top 100 (money Magaizne) places to live in the US... 357 bars within 15 mile radius...the average for those who made the list is 107. Move east and drown your sorrows?

Use the subscribe feature. Usally at least one Archviz per week. You may even have some chances at the game industry in Chicago...

If you knew how to model, camera map & uvw map fancy cakes.... LOL just kidding, well maybe ;0 But you'd have to do archviz too

Folishness aside... I might suggest finding a job before moving. Working at Mcdonalds or swinging a hammer is a far cry from at least doing some archviz in a not soo great working environment.

swinging a hammer

i miss the days when i worked construction during the summer. getting outside, and building things can be very rewarding when they are finished. ...but yes, the enviroment is completely different. if i posted some of the conversations i heard on this message board, i would be banned for life.

sorry for hi-jacking.

yeah, I need to bail outta here. There's just enough growth and every company around here has a long-standing relationship with Andersen Illustration...there's no way to break in...they get all the high profile work here without even bidding (we're cheaper and faster).

I'm willing to go ANYWHERE south that could borderline guarantee consistent work and moderate salary. Right now I have neither. I wish I could use MicroStation to build the models (not render) but it seems there are very few firms that use MicroStation :(

I appreciate the responses a TON!

Currently MicroStation to build and Vue 5 Infinite to render. Not the most common and employable pieces of software. But I myself own quite a few XFrog Libraries, LowPolygon 3d people, HDRI libraries, and Dosch Autos to help spice things up.

I'm in the process of re-learning Max (it's been a few years)...I'm looking to move in the next months to a half year...so I'm working with pace and have nothing to show off yet. Just my Vue work and it's (Vue) starting to be a limiting factor for me.

Vegas does have alot going on... I've been doing quite a bit of work for companies out there. As for bigger salaries, though, my observation has been that there isn't a great difference between Midwest wages and costal wages... certainly not enough to offset the differences in cost of living. Vegas might be a different story... I don't think cost of living is so high.

Though I have to say that I don't think I'd personally enjoy living in Las Vegas.

Well, you could work in Florida at a certain company and they will teach you Max if you have a good grasp of the fundamentals....with more benefits as well. You could probably go just about anywhere and improve your financial situation so take your time and make sure whatever choice you make will help you get closer to where you want to be for the long run.

Ryan,

I told you to give us a look. Cooper Carry is a large Architectural firm with offices in Atlanta (HQ), NewYork, Washington DC, and Huntington Beach CA. We are a MICROSTATION office but I have added MAX-8 and VRay to our VIS efforts. Do you have an architectural degree? Are you going to Boston next week for SIG?

LOL When you Dude dust yourself off, ;) I read your Profile, it's all good LOL ROTFL.... drop me a private message. We actually have a growing number of SE WI members here at CGArchitect. Been considering a Max/CG local users group ;)
