jtiscareno
Ok here is the deal, I to do an animation for an office interior and have a bunch of workstations, chairs, etc, there are all a seperate max file but they are made up of a bunch of smaller objects so my question is how to make all of those objects into one mesh that has a multi subobject material for all. The reason for this is that I want to use vray proxies in the office interior for faster render times, and I did a test and the way the proxies works and retains all of the material like on achair or a workstation is if it is one object, but how can I make a complex model just be one model object??? Is is just convert any object to a mesh and then just add all the other parts or is there another better way. Thanks like always!
Ricardo Eloy
If I understood you correctly, you gave the answer already. Take all your objects, turn them into Editable Poly and attach them to each other. Max will ask you if you wan to mess with the material IDs and all, simply choose the first option and it will keep everything as is. You can then convert the object into a VRayMesh and use it as a proxy.
jtiscareno
Oh...good, then that means that I am finally getting used to max (I am an old school cad modeler). Gracias Ricardo!
Koper
Jello Akzit, also, once it all has been attached you can eyepick the material of the merged object and it wil give you a multisub object material, and if you have named all the objects before merging, all the materials would have names. it is a good way for opening up more material slots as well thought i'd give my penny;) cheers
