Hi:

Question 1: Is there any way of selecting polygons by texture ?. Say: I want to select all objects in layer "x" that have the texture "j" applied

Question 2: (the silly one) I need to use a map to simulate holes on a surface, how do I achieve that?. I am sure this should be very easy but I'cant figure it out.

Question 3: Is there any plug in for instancing?

Thanks

1) Yes, in modeler, press "w" and click and hold down "surface". Select the surface that you'd like to select. And press the "+" button to the left.

2) Not sure exactly what you mean here. Use the image as a tranparency map using your Surface Editor or, in Layout, under "Object Properties, use the image as a clip map. Either works but the clip maps tend to render faster and work MUCH better with instancing.

3) Instancing: I use HD Instance from Happy Digital - great plug in, IMHO.

It does NOT work with FPrime as it utilizes volumetrics to create it's instances.

It worked !. How could I not know about this for so long?.

2) in Layout, under "Object Properties, use the image as a clip map.

I am going to try that.

Looks good. I need to have a closer look to see if it is what i need.

Thanks for your help!

Hector:

One thing to keep in mind about using Clip maps - they're object based. So if you need to clip only a part of an object, then:

1) use a UV map for the area to be clipped. OR

2) place the area to be clipped to another layer and parent that layer to the base layer. OR

3) create a completely separate object and parent that to the base object.

I usually use option #2 as it's more in my workflow routine but use whichever suits you and your project best.
