trhoads
Hello all, I have been out of the rendering world for a while now, and am just getting started again. I feel like I have to learn everything new again. We purchased VIZ 2006 early this year, and I am just now getting around to using it. I am now having issues regarding mapping, bump maps, and lighting that I am not used to. All of my custom textures now map wrong, and the bump maps do not produce any texture, like they did when I was on older versions of VIZ. I also need to re-learn lighting, all of my materials are now very over exposed, when set up under the lighting system that I had to use before radiosity and all of the new lighting techniques. I can deal with that, but the bump maps not working proper, and the map scales are really driving me nuts. I am attaching a small clip of what I am working on, to show how everything appears so flat, and smooth, I can't get that to go away. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance. I just realized, this probably needs to be in the VIZ section of the forum, my apologies. It can be moved if necessary.
Trevor Tizard
Hi Travis, I went thru a similar thing about a year ago. Left visuals on Viz r2 and came back to 2005 and had to adjust my old work flow. These are my findings: For external lighting download the e-light plugin (google it) as it can fake GI (and is faster than the sky light) and then use a direct light for a sun. Don't use the real world mapping - stick to UVW mapping. These are the basics I began with - all my materials are new (and I don't use architectural materials). If you really want to see what you can acheive now, download vray free from http://www.chaosgroup.com. It is quick t leard and the is pleny of great help available in the forums - here too. Hope this helps a little. Trev
