wilky9
I know this topic has been discussed in various ways before, but I cannot find an answer to my specific question. It seems now that the architects have finally figured out wall styles, and are building their models in 3D (mostly) I spend more of my time cleaning up the models than texturing and rendering. The wall styles have numerous layers (ex. stucco, gypsum board, studs) that all get imported into my model. I then have all of this extra information that I either have to painstakingly remove from the model, or just work around, depending on time. It leads to sloppy models, and I'm sure a time hit when rendering. So, is there a way to get the models from ADT 2007 into Lightwave without all of this extraneous information? I started changing the wall styles in ADT, but there are lots of them, and I couldn't find a way to select walls "by style". This seemed to be the most promising path. bytor
Wilky, You would probably get a better hit on this topic in the ADT section - but here is what I do. In ADT - create as many wall styles as YOU need for rendering. Simplify them to be only the components you will see in the visualization. Sometimes this measn 1 interior and 1 exterior component, and you will need to pay a little attention to depths. You can now select the "heavy"walls the Architect created and change their style to your walls. When you import them now - they should be much less complex to work with. wilky9
Thanks, Dean I started making simplified wall styles, but I got frustrated selecting each wall and assigning it a new modified style. I've been talking to some of the guys around here and may have come up with a solution. I'll modify all of the styles, save the drawing, and then import that drawing whenever I need the modified styles. Hopefully they will change the styles of the drawing I'm working with. Confused? I am! If anyone has other suggestions, I'd love to hear them.
bytor
Chris, One quick way to select the wall styles is (if you have the express tools loaded) to selct one wall section and use the layer-isolate command. Now all you should have is what is on the general wall style layer - hopefully just walls. You can select all the walls at one time to be converted to one particular style and use the properties palette to change them to the new style. Repeat this for as many styles as you will need, and when you are done - type "layuniso" to turn everything back on. Good luck! Dean
RAYMOND
i use ADT wall styles extensively... but also render the models that include them... i find it very simple... it is harder not to do this... however, the difficulty comes with not setting up the styles right. it can get complicated and confusing very fast.... even with styles with a lot of layers there is only 1 or 2 surfaces that I care about so i just deal with that.... i use mso in viz.... haven't tried the architectual materials yet had to much trouble with mapping as far as going into another program i would think it would be the same... orgainization seems to be the key... my 3 cents...
