Pink Floyd Connection

I love how CGA has become the "unofficial floyd fan forum". It saves me from having to make another stop in the internet.:)

That is clearly a direct tribute to animals. Which by the way is the most underrated of all the floyd albums IMHO. Movie looks really interesting too. I like the cast, especially Michael Cain.

I also read that David Gilmour said there will be a concert in Syd's honor, no further details.

Everyone is thinking it so I'll go ahead and say it. Maybe Syd's passing will pull the gang back together. Probably not but here's to hoping.:D One thing that got me a little discouraged about any future floyd projects was at one of Gilmores recent concerts a fan yelled out "when is the next Pink Floyd concert!?" Dave's response was "Who gives a f*ck!":(

Apparently a lot of us give a f*ck, but it's his life--he can do as he wants.

He said that Roger's idea of them doing a DSOTM tour now, would just be doing it for the money--well, he could always give his share to charity. I know I'm being selfish wanting them to reunite and tour, but they are in the entertainment business and I wish my daughter would get the chance to experience them live.

Also, if I can paraphrase the old adage: The whole is much greater than the sum of it's parts.

Correct me please if im wrong but is this movie about floyd or is like the wall or what is it? what connects it to floyd please tell me i need to know.......

cheers

Battersea powerstation (see the still above) became an icon when it was used in the cover art of a Floyd album. The building is also used as a set in the linked film trailer. That's the link. I understand your confusion - I watched the trailer thinking the same thing!

Still, cool premise for a film.

Very funny story about the pig:

The band members have always been very involved in the cover art for thier albums (except for Dark Side of the Moon), and when they initially envisioned the flying pig over the powerstation the art director said that would be fine they'll shoot the powerstation and then comp in the pig (how did they do this before PS?). Anyway the band said nuh-uh, they actually wanted a giant pig floating over the powerstation at the time its photographed.

Since rock stars get whatever they want, the art guys had a giant inflatable pig made and pulled all the strings they could to get the city and the powerstation to approve the rediculous idea with one condition: that there be a SNIPER there to shoot the thing down should it tear loose from the harness!

So on the fist day of the shoot with the sniper on hand, all went fine but the band didn't like any of the photos so another day was scheduled. On the second day, with the marksman absent, it was a little stormy and the art guys were a little worried about the straps holding up but the band thought the sky looked too cool to pass, so up goes the pig goes again and sure enough a good gust of wind and off it went into the sky and over the english channel! Planes at 40,000 feet reported seeing the giant pig and other flights were cancelled because of it. it eventually landed on some rural farmland.

As for the cover, the pig was comped in.

Well, I'm another Pink Floyd fan, so I thought I'd join in.

I never knew the name/location of the building on that album cover till now, so thanks for that.

After a little web searching I found these great pictures of the proposed redevelopment. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_depth/uk/2005/battersea_power_station/

Make sure you click on the link to future picks, there are some nice 3d renderings there of the new retail mall that will be there.

Isn't there some irony somewhere in that historic building selling out and becoming a mall. Or, on the other hand, is it nice to see someone keep a historically relevant structure and revamp it into a new space?
