shangriladida
Hello guys, im glad to be part of this community, since this is my first post, lets make this straight... Im using sketchup and maya for 3d works, and now just started learning to use maxwell render because the renderer has given a really good photorealistic(well, I have seen some from their official gallery though) ok, anyway...I would like to ask a few about this software. 1. When i open the maxwell render (after i export my maya/skp files to mxs)I couldnt see any texture loaded on the models that i have textured in these 3d softwares. Do we need to load them ourself? or maxwell doesnt accept textures from other softwares, meaning we need to texture them in maxwell? 2. In maya, Ive heard that the maxwell's skylight plugin doesnt work at all. Is this true? I put some spotlights(maya's) in my models and when i render(maxwell) them, no spot effects were seen in the models. 3. Worse case scenario, how can we hide the emmitters source in maya? (like maya's hide source for glow effect) BTW, sorry for these long dragging questions...Thanks! -sham-
AJLynn
Hmmm... well, Maxwell Studio does have a shaded textures mode and a preview render mode, can you see it in there? Or do you mean that you went straight to the renderer, and it renders an image without the textures you had assigned? Are you using the plugins correctly? I've never used Mayall and I'm out of the loop on SKP2MXS but in Max you need to assign Maxwell-specific materials and in Cinema you need to put Maxwell tags on objects to have the materials work. You should study that part of the documentation. Also, spotlights don't work as Maxwell lights. The only Maxwell light sources are the sun/sky system and objects in the scene that have a emitter material. You need to make a light bulb, give it an emitter material and put it in a light fixture with a reflective material that will give the spotlight effect when the light is reflected, or make the light source very strong and put it in a box with a hole in it. Or, get really good at mental ray and forget about Maxwell until it's in version 2.
