cerpnjak
Hi there, this is my first interior so go easy, it was actually a tutorial I bought on DVD but when it came to render the scene it was done with Vray and I don't have Vray...darn!!! So I decided to have a crack with Mental Ray, I've seen some stunning results using it so thought i'd give it a go. This really is more of a work in progress and wanted your valued opinions on how I could improve the lighting to give it a more realistic look....like so many of the Vray renders I've seen on this site. Like I said it's my first real go using Mental Ray and I know there is loads to improve on but any comments/crits etc... will be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance cerpnjak
Drunkenbear
hi there my first mental ray or is also posted on here http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/18564-show-flat-first-image-posts.html what i did is follow this tutorial using m.omni lights instead of the normal omni lights and replacing the down light with a photometic one. http://www.cgarchitect.com/resources/tutorials/smoke3d/tutorial3.asp this should make the shadows under the furniture seem softer and also add some depth to the walls. The photo for the window view looks a bit flat but maybe the m.omni light outside will help with that. Also some of the materials could do with a bit more bump mapping on to give them more texture. Like i said i only posted my first one up today also but i found the above tutorial and other posts on here a great help. hope that helps a bit
cerpnjak
Thanks for your comments Stefan, I agree the pic used in the window does look flat, will try and sort that out. Going to have aread through that tutorial, looks as though I could learn alot from that too. Thanks again for your comments and post some more renders up when you have played around with MR some more
